SHD levels replace skill caches at level 40, but are earned the same way.
Everything you do earns you experience in The Division 2, and Warlords of New York doesn't change that. Instead of unlocking a Skill Cache every time you fill up your experience bar after hitting the new level cap, you'll earn a point to invest in the new SHD tier system. You must own Warlords of New York and reach level 40 for the system to unlock.
To gain the necessary experience, all you need to do is play the game, although there are ways to maximize your winnings. Tackling Daily and Weekly Projects will earn you solid experience, as will completing tasks for seasonal activities, world events, and leagues. Tackling checkpoints, world events, and missions will also earn you solid experience, and with the new guidelines, you can earn bonus experience through missions and the open world (while also making the game more difficult. , I must note it).
Directives will provide the biggest boost to experience gains for missions or the entire map if you can manage their game modification modifiers, with a maximum bonus of 125% for earning gains if you activate all five directives. This will make the game more difficult, so if you find yourself dying too often, it's best to remove the guidelines until you find a good balance that allows you to clear content at a healthy pace.
When you unlock an SHD level, you can access the tree view from your menu, and from there you can place it in any of the four categories of any of the disciplines. Each level will alternate between Offensive, Defensive, Utility, Manipulation, and Recovery, so you can focus shooting on all of your points in one category from the start.
Each discipline is capped at 200 points, each category arriving at 50 points. The “infinite” part of the SHD levels comes from the Recovery category, which allows you to recover a stock of resources when you validate a point there.
SHD levels are account-wide, which means all of your characters will benefit. There is only one requirement that your alts must meet in order to use SHD levels, however, and that is that they must be level 40 if they wish to contribute to your total SHD level.
This is how you gain SHD levels in The Division 2: Warlords of New York. You can now increase your potency well beyond the level cap.
