The plague of duplicate files knows no bounds: especially on operating systems with multiple disks, unless mirror backup mechanisms (also known as "mirroring") are voluntarily set up, it is not difficult to come across virtually identical files which do nothing but take up useless space.
Unfortunately, carrying out a manual search at regular intervals to eliminate the superfluous takes a lot of time, on the other hand - at least as regards Windows - there are several applications that can help us.
In particular, today we talk about Duplicate File Finder of Auslogics, a tool that although supported by a lot of advertising (which fortunately can be avoided) has a good search algorithm, is quite fast and allows you to intervene on different settings.
The program is compatible with all supported versions of Windows, weighs a few MB and is a 32-bit version (which also works very well on 64-bit operating systems). Let's see below how to best use Duplicate File Finder.
Preliminary information
We always recommend doing an installation through one 100% genuine and original license, this is to avoid data loss or hacker attacks. We are aware that purchasing a license on the Microsoft store has a high cost. For this we have selected for you Mr Key Shop, a reliable site with free assistance specialized in in your language, secure payments and shipping in seconds via email. You can check the reliability of this site by reading the many positive verified reviews. Windows 10 licenses are available on this store at very advantageous prices. Furthermore, if you want to upgrade to the latest versions of Windows operating systems, you can also purchase the upgrade to Windows 11. We remind you that if you have a genuine version of Windows 10, the upgrade to the new Windows 11 operating system will be free. Also on the store you can buy the various versions of Windows operating systems, Office packages and the best antivirus on the market.
Search for duplicate files in Windows
First download the program using the link below:
DOWNLOAD | Auslogics Duplicate File Finder
We start the installation program and, in order to avoid installing unwanted programs, we put the check mark on Installation personalized, then remove the check mark from "Install BootSpeed to find out ..." and click on "Click to install".
In the next window, remove the check mark from "Set Yahoo as your homepage and search engine ..." and click on Reject.
Finally, remove the check mark from "Install AusLogic Driver Updater" and click on Finish.
After the installation you can start the program from the desktop or calling it directly from the Start Screen (or from the Start menu). The main window of Duplicate File Finder looks like below:
The left panel will allow you to select discs (and possibly folders and subfolders) in which search for duplicate files, while the panel on the right will allow you to select the file types for which to search for duplicates (by default images, audio, video, archives and applications, you can still decide to carry out a complete search). At this point you can search with default settings by clicking directly on "Search". The default parameters are:
- search on images, audio, video, archives and applications;
- no size limit;
- positive feedback in case of identical names and modification date;
- moving duplicate files to the recycle bin.
By clicking on "Next" you will have the possibility to define the above settings one at a time: the following window will allow you to set the minimum and maximum size limits of the files to be checked (using the two items "Ignore files that do not exceed" and “Ignore files that exceed”). Once the parameters have been defined, click on "Next":
The next window will allow you to ignore files with the same name or modification date. These will not be excluded from the search, however they will be flagged as "duplicates" if and only if the contents of the files are the same.
In the fourth window, if you remember, you can enter the name of the file or part of its name
Finally, the fifth window vi will allow you to define the default operation in case of feedback: you can move duplicate files to the trash, move them to the Rescue Center included in the program (the files remain restorable later, in this case) or proceed todirect elimination (choice that is not recommended).
Once this has been defined, all you have to do is click on "Search".
The search result will be shown in a separate window. Warning: the program will notify you with a dubious notification - I remind you once again that Duplicate File Finder is ad-supported - that the system is "slow". Be careful as it is a sort of "bogus warning": by clicking on "Improve performance now" you will be redirected to the installation procedure of a potentially unwanted software (PUP). Close the fake notification by clicking on the X at the top right (the smaller one).
Despite being ad-suppported (fortunately the ads are not very invasive), Duplicate File Finder is still a program that allows you to search for duplicate files in the system quickly and easily. A must have .. with due attention.
