You are using your brand new Smartphone when you notice a terrible error: "Overlay detected”Sometimes followed by an error that always indicates the same thing. Overlay, overlay… but what is it and how can we fix it?
No fear. What you are seeing is not necessarily an error, but rather an oversight protezioni of Android which unfortunately many fail to explain. Overlay protection is very important as it avoids that malicious programs make use of the screen to display fake messages and other content which is best not described.
So, yes: by Overlay we mean what some apps use to control the screen. For example Twilight uses a red tint on the screen to avoid stressing the user's eyes, especially in dim light situations. Most of the time this behavior is seen badly by Android and everything is blocked or constantly put in error situation
So let's see how to fix this and allow the right programs (like Twilight or Lux) to work.
Sometimes the error is accompanied by being able to open settings. These guides include all the way to the settings and then the special permissions regarding this issue.
- You are using Oreo? Open the settings by accessing the menu at the top (slide it down) and press on the gear. In Apps and Notifications you can find advanced settings. Within this there will be a part called "Special Permissions". There will be many options, including a call Drawing on other Apps (or similar to this denomination). Inside you will find a list of Apps compatible with this permission. Approve the permission for the Apps you deem appropriate and the error will disappear.
- State using Marshmallow or nougat? Go into the settings through the top menu as always, and proceed to Apps (or Application Management). Inside you will find a gear in the upper right. Press on it. Going down there will be the option for special permissions. From this point on it is practically the same as Oreo, look for the option concerning the design above other apps and approve the necessary programs.
- Note that these settings may still be in different positions. For example, on LG or Samsung smartphones, the position changes. The important thing, however, is to always search in the Application Management (or Apps) and always find the special permissions, through the menus at the top right.
