Use WASD and your mouse to control your mech.
While this may sound like ninety-nine percent of first-person games on the market, how your WASD and mouse work in MechWarrior 5. is a little different. First, W and S control your accelerator: press W to increase your speed, and S to decrease or reverse it. You can also use the numeric keypad to choose a percentage for your throttle, one being ten percent and so on.
A and D will spin your robot's legs, but not your torso: there is no traditional strafing here. The mouse controls your torso regardless of your legs, so you'll have to rely on the radar or the bar under your crosshair to determine the direction your feet are facing relative to your feet.
That said, you can easily refocus your BattleMech with the F or C keys. F will re-center your legs under your torso and C will re-center your torso on your legs. Remember that the arrow on the radar points to your legs and the taper to your torso if you need a quick reference.
For gamepad users, it's even simpler: the left stick controls throttle and legs, the right stick controls the torso. You can refocus your torso with button B (joystick on the right), and your legs with A (joystick at the bottom).
Finally, you can turn a couple of things on or off about your robot: Throttle decay (where releasing W will reduce your speed to zero) can be turned on with the Add key on the numeric keypad and the arm lock (where your torso and arm weapons will be locked to a single crosshair) can be activated by holding down the Shift key or toggling with the Z key. You can also activate them permanently in the options menu.
That's all you need to know to get Trampling. Just try to keep an eye on your legs. You are a multi-ton tank with feet; you will crush whatever you walk. For more guides, be sure to keep an eye out for our guides page.
