When the button and the Start menu were removed - it was thought definitively - in Windows 8, there were many who screamed in disgrace, demanding their return to the sound of criticism and curses.
Return that, punctually, arrived with the corrective (and not just in terms of performance!) Windows 8.1, at least for the key - little more than a shortcut to access the Start Screen but with a useful contextual menu (as we will see later the latter will also remain for Windows 10).
With Windows 10 things have changed, and the menu Home is back to stay with a compromise that defining excellent is almost an understatement: although the tablet version has remained quite similar to the Windows 8.1 Start Screen, the version desktop del menu Start joins the practicality of its "classic" version and the versatility of the new Windows 10 interface.

From weather to email, to the photo collection going through the news or any program installed on your system, the Start menu can show gods small squares or large squares – tali Live Tile – that update automatically to show the most up-to-date information about the app they refer to.
By adding the News app to the Start menu, for example, you will see a preview of the latest news published, as well as by adding the Weather app to it, you will see the current conditions relating to your location. Furthermore you will be able to create groups of tiles to your liking, to keep the menu even tidier.
In the same way, you can also add apps to the Start menu (and possibly group) that do not have Live Tile to be reached simply in a single click.
add an app you will not have to do anything else search for it in Start> All apps, right click (or long tap) on it and select Pin to Start.
You can at any time zoom in, zoom out or delete the tile (or even turn off the animation, if it is a live tile) related to an app simply by doing right click / long tap on it in the Start menu.
You can also move a tile from one group to another simply by dragging it and give the group a name by moving the mouse over an empty point of the Start immediately above the group of apps and clicking, when it appears, on the words “Assign a name to the group”.

Customize the Start menu
As you have seen the Start menu can be exploited on several occasions, and that is precisely why Microsoft has dedicated a special panel to it between settings to make it even more functional. Accessing it is simple: just go to Start> Settings> Personalization> Start.
As you can see from the image above, this panel allows you to further refine the behavior of the menu thanks to a series of switches that we describe below:
- show more panes: it allows you to "enlarge" the Start menu and show an additional row of tiles;
- occasionally shows suggestions in Start: shows the apps that Microsoft deems suitable for the user based on his preferences (yes, basically advertising);
- show recently added apps: shows a section containing the most recently installed apps;
- use full screen mode: allows you to activate or deactivate the tablet mode of the Start menu (or the full screen display);
- shows recently opened items in the Jump List in Start or in the taskbar: if the app allows it, it shows a list of files recently opened through it in correspondence with the tile (or icon on the taskbar).
Finally, by clicking on the link Choose the folders to show on Start it will be possible to show or hide various folders or system features from the menu, that is:
- Esplora File (Explorer);
- the Settings panel;
- Documents;
- Download;
- Music;
- Images;
- Video;
- Home Group;
