If you are playing Death Stranding on PC, you may have noticed that there is a glitch with Ultrawide resolutions that has yet to be fixed via an official patch.
Basically when playing at 21: 9 or whatever resolution Ultrawide supports you get tiny black bars on the right and left of the screen which can be a bit annoying throughout your experience in the world. wide open and sorry of Kojima's latest Hideo Game.
It's not a big deal and you should get used to it sooner or later but, given that Ultrawide support has been claimed as one of the biggest new features in the PC version, it would be great to see it work. like it's supposed to.
Fortunately, while we wait for an official update from Kojima Productions, we can fix the issue immediately with relatively little effort.
Fixed black bars in Death Stranding 21: 9 and Ultrawide resolutions
First of all, download and install HxD. This is the only software requirement needed to fix the black bars issue, while the rest is very quick and easy.
Once the installation is complete, you can open the program, click on File, and open ds.exe. From there, press Ctrl + R and navigate to “Hex Values”.
Click on Search Direction "All" and write 55 55 15 40 in Find, then replace with the hexadecimal value of the aspect ratio of your resolution. The most common resolution values are:
- 2560 × 1080 = 26 B4 17 40
- 3440 × 1440 = 8E E3 18 40
- 3840 × 1080 = 39 8E 63 40
- 3840 × 1440 = AB AA 2A 40
- 3840 × 1600 = 9A 99 19 40
- 3840 × 1620 = 26 B4 17 40
- 5120 × 1440 = 39 8E 63 40
- 5120 × 2160 = 26 B4 17 40
- 6880 × 2880 = 8E E3 18 40
After that click on Replace All, save and check if the fix worked correctly. If so, you can play Death Stranding with Ultrawide support as it was supposed to work from the start.
The Death Stranding PC port is a really good port that allows you to sort of get the Definitive Edition of the game, with unlocked frame rates that really make a difference.
Overall, it's very polished and some small tweaks like this can deliver even better resolution thanks to an easily achievable change in settings.
