Rocket Arena has many unique characters that don't play in your team roles. Izell is not one of them. She pretty much plays like your standard close range hitter, but she has a few quirks that make her really great in certain situations.
Making the Most of Izell's Assortment of Deadly Instruments
While Izell feels like a more typical character in the hero shooter genre, she's surprisingly difficult to master and use effectively. It's quick and flexible and packs a punch, but some of its tools really only work in specific situations and are easy to miss.
- Rockets launches
- Izell's main rocket. It's a good all-around weapon and does decent damage but nothing special about it. The rapid rate of fire makes them especially useful for close range combat, as you can beat your opponent quite quickly. However, you will need to reload frequently, as Izell's spear only has eight shots.
- Jaaqua Charge
- Izell's special ability. This is by far the ability to stand out from Izell as it allows her to aim and propel herself (as if she were a rocket herself) into her opponents, firing a big hit and doing massive damage.
- This is ideal when you're on the verge of a fight and need to get in and knock someone out quickly.
- If you are moving or near an enemy, you will have a small amount of time to aim better, but if you don't, you will automatically shoot forward. It can put you out of a good position or throw you over the map, so use the load wisely.
- While aiming, you can press the special ability button again to launch without waiting for the timer to end.
- Snare Ball
- Izell's secondary ability. This attack does a bit of damage, stuns your opponent, and will shoot them towards you, but it's hard to pull off.
- The Bola Snare is best kept for one-on-one encounters where you can leave an opponent on a leash and then follow up with a rocket launcher to get bonus damage.
- It's pretty easy to miss the Bola Snare, so don't use this ability without planning.
Strategies for Knockout / RocketBot Attack
Izell is a good choice for knockout rounds. His Spear Rocket is a strong and easy weapon to deal damage and his Jaaqua charge can devastate enemies. If you miss out on any of her abilities, however, it tends to put her in a bad position and without any outstanding defensive skills, she can easily gang up and be overwhelmed. Still, if used with care and precision, it can be an effective powerhouse for this basic mode.
Strategies for Rocketball
While you can't use Izell's Jaaqua charge to run away after picking up the ball, it's a great ability to use to get around the map. Sometimes it's better to boost free speed to reach for the ball or get around an opponent instead of an offensive ability. Since this game mode tends to be a bit more extensive than Knockout, use the charge to move quickly. If an opponent grabs the ball, hitting it with your Bola Snare is especially helpful.
Strategies for Mega Rocket
Like in rocketball, Jaaqua Charge is great for moving from area to area. That, in combination with Izell's speed and agility, makes her a great character to move around the map quickly, especially in arenas with a lot of verticality. The Bola Snare can also be used effectively to pull opponents out of the missile area if you need to clear some space for your teammates to take control.
Treasure hunting strategies
Izell is surprisingly useful in both phases of the treasure hunt. While she doesn't have a lot of outstanding defensive skills, she's an overall hitter strong enough that she can strike back at anyone who tries to take the treasure chest away from her. Coming to the coins phase, you might be tempted to try and reload Jaaqua all around and grab the change, but we've found that this tends to get you out of position more quickly than not. If there's a line of pieces ready to be taken that you can quickly line up, go for it. Otherwise, you can use your normal speed and agility to get coins as quickly as possible.
For a fairly straightforward character, she can be a bit difficult to figure out. She won't be great in all situations, but she can still get by if you play to her strengths and are precise with her abilities.
