The more time passes and the more our applications use random access memory (RAM) and despite the impressive amount of RAM memory that our phones have nowadays, we always want more! This is why we are offering you this tutorial which will allow you to optimize your RAM.
Why increase the available RAM memory?
The RAM of your phone is very important, the more you have, the more you will be able to run processes / applications / tabs etc ... without problem. Everything on your phone uses RAM from your operating system (Android) to every application launched.
As it ages, your phone will find it harder and harder to support latest generation apps / games and this tutorial may help you "get better". Because even if Google has improved the Android system to consume less RAM, it remains essential.
How to increase the amount of available RAM?
There are a lot of possibilities to optimize RAM and especially to use less RAM, here is what you have to do.
Do not use widgets, or few.
Each widget uses a certain amount of RAM constantly (and even mobile data for some) and while they are very handy, you might slow down your phone by using too many widgets.
Do not use “live” wallpapers
These famous animated wallpapers which are often very pretty, but with precisely these famous animations, your memory will take a hit and it is especially combined with everything else that the use of a "live wallpaper" Becomes awkward.
Disable apps you don't use
Some applications are programmed to launch without your asking and will silently consume your RAM without you realizing it! So, feel free to deactivate the apps you are not using (especially those preinstalled on your phone) to avoid this kind of problem.
Here's how to deactivate an app:
- Go in Parameters
- Then in Applications
- Then choose the application (s) to deactivate
- Once on the application, tap on deactivate
- When the confirmation message appears, press OK
It's that easy and you can now turn off any apps you don't use.
Disable system animations.
Turning off system animations will make your phone run faster (by removing animation time) and use less RAM since the very nice animations that Android offers us also eat up our RAM! When I told you that everything uses RAM, I was not lying!
You must first activate Developer Mode, go to this tutorial to do so.
Here's how to turn off animations:
- Go in Parameters
- Then in Options for developers
- Go down the list until the three " Ladders ... »
- Then tap on each of them then select Animation disabled
You can try it right now, it's a radical change!
Using an app
For unrooted smartphones
If all of the tips below aren't enough, there is an even more drastic solution - use an app. We have selected two that are fairly easy to use and which do not require you to be rooted. With them you should be able to find your happiness.
Clean master
Well known to Android users, Clean Master is not only dedicated to RAM management. It is a real toolbox which also allows you to erase unnecessary files to free up storage space. This is also its primary function, but the application nevertheless has a powerful tool to optimize the available RAM memory of your phone.
To do this, all you need to do is:
- Lancer l’application Clean Master
- Click on the percentage of RAM or on the button "Device accelerator". The application will then evaluate how much RAM it is possible to free
- click button « Booster »
Memory Booster Lite
As its name suggests, RAM accelerator allows you to free up and boost the RAM of your smartphone. There is a free version and a paid version, offering more advanced options, offered at a price of 3,29 euros in the Play Store. You are free to opt for the latter. That said, the free version is more than enough.
Just like on Clean Master, you will find a button allowing you to automate the choice of process to be eliminated, but not only because you can also select them individually via the middle tab. Be careful though not to delete anything. Also, most of the time, automatic optimization will suffice.
To automatically optimize your phone's memory, all you need to do is:
- Launch the application. The amount of available, occupied and total RAM is then displayed on your screen.
- Click on the "Quick optimization" button to free the memory
- Find all the optimizations carried out in the log, on the left.
For rooted smartphones
If your smartphone is rooted, you will be able to go even further in RAM management thanks to the ROEHSOFT RAM-EXPANDER (SWAP) application. Behind this bizarre name hides the term swap. You know, this operation which allows to increase the RAM of a PC by using part of the hard disk. Well, it's exactly the same thing. You will use part of the storage memory on your SD card as RAM.
A promising application which nevertheless has its limitations because you will not be able to increase the RAM beyond 4 GB (this is already quite enough!). In addition it is sold at the price of 7,99 euros in the Google Play Store. Remember to check the compatibility of your device before installing it.
Please note that you must have a rooted smartphone and a Class 10 SD card. If so, here's how to do it:
- Click on the "Optimal values" button at the bottom left to test the capabilities of your device and your SD card
- Check the box "ACTIVE SWAP" at the top left
- Select your external SD card
- The SWAP file will then be created. The operation is quite long and you should especially not quit the application during the process.
With these different steps, your smartphone will have less difficulty running everything and will undoubtedly appear faster. Suggestions ? Questions ? Comments are made for you!
