The Hoppia Tale video game is a Zelda-inspired adventure game, which aims to raise awareness of the animal world and its importance in the world. Of course, in this game the animals fight evil forces of fantastic proportions, but the same can be said in real life. The game offers interesting and exciting combinations of fast-paced gameplay with on-the-go puzzle solving and mixes several familiar experiences to produce an interesting combination.
Development and reception
The game is developed and published by the Lucid Side studio, which is inspired by several cult favorite games like the old school Zelda games and the like. Hoppia Tale receives 4.6 star rating on Google Play so far about 2,5k votes. On the App Store, it was rated over 4,8 stars, but the electoral sample is less than 1k and still too small to be considered relevant. The game was offered at an early stage of access, however, which lends a lot of credibility to the notes.
story
The land of Hoppia is plunged into chaos after a scientific discovery allows ancient portals left by a bygone civilization to function again. Across the rift of space and time, evil forces use technology to conquer worlds. Players must also understand the puzzles and intricacies of this ancient technology and reverse the effects, but in order to do so, they must travel across dimensions and alternate worlds in search of answers, hopefully fighting the forces of invasion.
gameplay
Much like the old Zelda titles, this game is a top-down action adventure in which RPG elements play an important role. Naturally, every aspect mentioned has been significantly expanded from the old school 90s, but the game pops up and unveils the spirit of the old ones. Bomberman is also a good example to give when describing how gameplay mechanics work here.
Hoppia Tale's controls are designed for mobile gaming, with the game giving the player a choice of swipe method, or you can also switch to arrows and D-pad if you want. Swiping is also very well done in the sense that you swipe the lower part of the screen to control which direction your character will jump in, which is where the game gets its name.
Each stage i.e. the world or dimension is divided into tiles and the player-controlled character jumps from tile to mosaic, solving puzzles and making ancient technology work for you and not for the enemy. However, things quickly get very hectic as enemy forces will also hamper your progress and attack you, adding a touch of fast-paced adventure to the gameplay. As you take out your enemies, you also collect various in-game currencies, evolve your character, and master ancient gateway technology.
Boss fights are a highlight of the game, as all bosses have their mechanics to master and offer the player high challenge and high reward by default. This game is quite difficult in its basic mode, and there is also an option to increase the difficulty.
Appearence
Hoppia Tale looks deceptively simple and understated, but like the old Zelda games, it'll lock you in quickly once you've tried your luck. At first glance, the simple designs and minimalist designs in the game will make it seem like a kid's pastime, but introduce yourself a bit into the game. You will find that it offers extensive content and very complex gameplay. Overall, it uses its limited visual abilities on mobile devices to do its best to present a full environment and match the game responsively.
Verdict
Hoppia Tale is much more than what you see. The game has high scores on both iOS and Android stores, which it got during its soft launch phase, which means they are legit. It may not seem like much at first glance, but it is a very rewarding experience once you give it a try. It will please you with its vast and alluring content and will delight all those who use so little to give so much in terms of gameplay.
