Homeworld Mobile, the next version from Gearbox Publishing, has just been set for a release date and will be available with the third install of the PC version. According to Gearbox, Homeworld 3 supporters will also have early access, as the two new games are surely nearing their launch date, each for their respective platform. They also have a trailer featuring some footage of the game in mobile version, so check it out:
Right off the bat, it's clear that Homeworld mobile is intended as an amalgamation of all PC version titles, including Homeworld 3. Plus, if you take a look at the trailer for this upcoming PC game, you won't feel like it's much more advanced in terms of appearance and gameplay. Gearbox is otherwise famous for adapting very flashy mechanics into a simple and practical playstyle, as was the case with the Borderlands franchise, which is also set to release in the very near future.
The exact launch date for Homeworld Mobile and Homeworld 3 is still not known, but the Borderlands 3 release date is September 13, 2019, just 10 days away. Gearbox appears to be shifting into high gear after a few years of staying off the radar and working on the releases mentioned. Their extension to the mobile platform is a natural and welcome progression.
It's still unclear if Homeworld Mobile is coming to Android and iOS, but it's expected at this point. However, we can only vaguely speculate in what form in-game monetization should be handled whether it is a premium purchase or F2P with in-game ads and microtransactions. The first option seems more likely, but who knows. For more information on the project, check out the game's official website here.
