GreedFall - How skills, attributes and talents work and how to increase them

In GreedFall, your character is defined by their selection of skills, attributes, and talents. These dictate their abilities and their interaction with the world around them.

The first thing to understand is that leveling up doesn't mean you can increase any of your skill, attribute, and talent trees. Instead, upgrades to these stats translate to more phased shipments.

If you open the Character Development screen, you can see your skill trees, and you can browse to see attribute and talent trees. Next to each one, a counter shows your current available unspent points, your total number of spent points, and the level at which you receive your next point. They all line up for that particular tree. If you even want to know what's going to happen, check out this part of the menu.

skills

Skills dictate which weapons you can use, provide a bonus for certain aspects of weapons (amount of damage, destruction of armor, stun, etc.), or allow you to do things like apply magic or poison potions to your weapons. weapons. To plan your build, scroll through each node to see the benefits you will receive.

For example, if you want to use Heavy Two-Handed Weapons, you should start with Heavy One-Handed Weapons and purchase all the nodes that separate them at the Heavy Two-Handed Weapons node. Only then can you equip heavy two-handed weapons and start using them.

As you explore the world, you should keep an eye out for skill altars - find out that these give you a free skill point. From a distance they appear on the map as question marks, but when you get closer you can see if they are skill altars or some other point of interest.

Attributes

Attributes can be thought of as your character's mental and physical abilities. Things like their strength (strength), hit points (stamina), lightness (feet) (agility). Each is linked to a particular type of item or weapon. You must have the highest score in these attributes to be able to use the best items and weapons in this class.

  • Strength - The best blunt one or two handed weapons.
  • Endurance - best heavy armor.
  • Agility - the best one-handed and two-handed swords.
  • Accuracy - better guns.
  • Metal Power - best rings.
  • Will - best amulets and necklaces.

You may be able to use certain types of weapons and armor depending on the skills you purchase. However, to use the best in these classes, you need to insert some attribute points in these relevant areas.

Talents

Talents dictate your ability to create, participate in diplomatic conversations and the like.

  • Charisma - reduces costs with traders and opens up dialogue possibilities with NPCs. The higher your level of charisma, the better your chances of success with these dialogue choices.
  • Science - allows you to break damaged walls and craft consumables. The higher the level, the higher the level of consumable you can craft.
  • Vigor - this will allow you to do difficult jumping or climbing paths that you wouldn't be able to do otherwise.
  • Lockdown - self-explanatory, allows you to take locks and is worth playing early in the game.
  • Crafting - allows you to craft armor and weapon upgrades.
  • Intuition - opens up unique dialogue options, often extremely useful during missions.

Talents are great because you can use certain armor to give yourself a little boost in a specific area. A pair of gloves can grant a +1 improvement to your skill, or a chest piece can give you an increase in lockdown. It's worth keeping the pieces that do this, because you never know when they might come in handy.
