With Gears 5 The Coalition, the developer detailed their plans to roll out post-launch content. The Coalition previously announced that new content updates will be delivered as part of Operations, and they now have more information on what to expect from the first two.
Here's what we'll see in the next six months from Gears 5 Operations 1 and 2.
What is an operation in Gears 5?
First of all: operations are just a way to package content updates at intervals. You can think of them as seasons in other online games like Fortnite or Destiny. Each Operation will last for three months and will feature its own set of Special Events, Characters, Supply Cards, Maps, Game Modes, and Skins to be earned through Challenges or purchased with in-game currency.
Once this is done, some of the content associated with it will no longer be available, so be sure to act quickly if a particular reward interests you. The characters will never be removed, however, you won't fail to get one just because you didn't earn it during the operation it was featured in.
What Happens Gears 5 Operation 1?
Operation 1: the launch is already in progress. From now on, new supply cards will be added to the pool every Tuesday and a new escape will be highlighted. As you move up the leaderboards in the selected hive and ranked playlists, you will earn rewards. The Gears 5 store will also be updated weekly with new exclusive items.
Starting in October, a new special event will be added each week to Versus and Horde modes. Fan-favorite One Shot One Kill will be part of the group, according to The Coalition. Later this month, the first post-launch characters will be added, one of which will be a COG hero, meaning he has his own ultimate abilities and skills.
What Happens Gears 5 Operation 2?
Operation 2 begins in December and will bring a whole range of content upon launch. At first, it will introduce a bunch of new maps, Versus modes, characters, events, and more. Here is the full list directly from The Coalition:
- Versus Modes
- Multiplayer maps
- Characters including COG Heroes
- Tiles for the map builder
- New Featured Events
- New weekly Escape Hives
- New weekly content Drop of the offer
From that point on, weekly content updates will continue as in Operation 1. Expect more details on Gears 5 Operation 2 will emerge as it nears release.
Between Operation Content drops, the Coalition will always release further updates to resolve technical issues and make other adjustments as needed. There will be more operations to come, but so far the Coalition has only revealed its plans for the first six months. It is likely that more information will emerge at the end of Operation 1 in December.
