NBA 2K21 is bringing back MyPlayer, and one of the key parts of building your player is badges. Badges are bonuses that give your MyPlayer character an extra edge during a game. Thanks to the NBA 2K21 demo, we now know which badges will be in this year's NBA 2K installment. Many badges that were in NBA 2K20 have returned to 2K21, so expect to see a lot of the same versions starting in 2019.
With that said, let's go over the full list of badges for NBA 2K21.
Finish
- Acrobat - Increases the ability to make layups that have a high degree of difficulty. Attempts at spin, half-spin, hot pitch, euro-pitch, cradle, reverse, and change of shot overlap receive a significant boost.
- Recoil punisher - Increases the chances of a player to successfully roll back his opponent. Allows players to be more successful than normal when knocking a defender back in the paint.
- Coherent finisher - Reduces the penalty for poorly released layups. Penalties for erroneous layups are reduced, allowing players to layup more consistently.
- Contact the paver - Improves the ability to convert contact layups and dunks into traffic. Slashers playing under the rim finish contact layers more successfully while dunkers are able to perform more contact dunks.
- Cross marker - Increases the shot percentage for layups when moving through pain. Increases the ability to do short range hooks, layups, or pull-ups while traversing paint.
- Deep hooks - Increases the shot percentage when taking hooks from a deep distance. Post hooks far from the basket receive a less than normal distance penalty.
- Dropstepper - Improves a player's ability to effectively use dropsteps in the message. Allows more success when attempting pole jumps and jumps, in addition to better protecting the ball, while performing these movements in the post.
- A very good footwork - Improves a player's ability to beat defenders with an advanced layup or rally dunk. Players overtake defenders more effectively when performing Euro, Cradle, Step Jumping, Spinning, and Half-spin rallies.
- Fastbreak paver - Increases player's Takeover counter when performing a dunk on a quick hit.
- Giant slayer - Increases the effectiveness of layups on taller defenders. Increases the shooting percentage for a layup attempt when it doesn't match a taller defender and reduces the possibility of being blocked.
- Lob City Finsher - Improves the chances of a successful alley-oop dunk / layup. Hits must be taken before the receiver lands.
- Pick & Roller - Increases the percentage of shot as a roll in a pick & roll. When coming out of the pick and roll, a shot boost is applied if the layup or dunk attempt occurs a few seconds after catching the pass.
- Pro touch - Give an extra boost to have good lay-up timing. Gives an extra boost to have slightly early, slightly late or excellent shot timing on layups.
- Discount pattern - Increases the shooting percentage when attempting to throw in after an offensive rebound. Activate drop dunks and increase the shooting attributes of a player who attempts a layup or throw dunk immediately after gaining an offensive rebound.
- Relentless Finisher - Reduces the fatigue effects of continuous contact rim finishing. Improves a player's ability to make a lot of contact by reducing energy lost when attacking the rim for kicks.
- Show time - Increases team Takeover counters after completing a Highlight game. Gives an extra boost to a player's Takeover meter and teammates when they land an And-1 or flashy dunk.
- Slithery paver - Improves a player's ability to avoid contact when attacking the rim. Increases a player's ability to slide in traffic and avoid contact during rallies and edge finishes.
- Tear Dropper - Increases the chances of hitting floats and runners. Improves a player's ability to take down floats and runners.
shooting
- Catch and shoot - Increases the chance of hitting a jump hit immediately after a capture. For a short time after receiving a pass, the receiver's outside shooting attributes are dramatically improved.
- Clutch puller - Increases the ability to reverse blows in moments of clutch. Shooting attempts that occur during the final moments of the 4th quarter, or in any overtime period, receive a big boost.
- Local specialist - Give a boost to photos taken near the corner. Deep mid-range or 3PT tank shots along the baseline of the court receive a boost, whether outside of the dribble or out of a catch
- Deadeye - Reduces the impact of an approaching defender. Jump shots made with a closing defender receive less penalty from a shooting competition. This includes both midrange and 3PT shots.
- Deep fade - Improves chances of doing a deep distance post fadeaway. Fadeaway draws taken far from the basket receive less distance penalty than normal.
- Difficult shots - Improves the ability to shoot difficult shots out of dribbling. High difficulty jumpers such as jumps, spins, backsteps, and pull-ups receive a shot percentage increase.
- Flexible release - Reduces the penalty suffered by improperly programmed jump shot releases.The timing penalties for jump shots are reduced, making knockdown attempts easier, even with early or late release.
- Green machine - Increases the bonus given for consecutive excellent versions. Gives an extra boost when performing back-to-back excellent jumps outings.
- Hot start - Improves the player's shooting ability after taking the first shot until failure occurs. For each shot taken since the start of the game, the player receives a shot attribute bonus that lasts until the first failed shot attempt.
- Hot Zone Hunter - Increases the shooting percentage for attempts made in a player's favorite locations. Photos taken in a player's hot zone (s) get a boost.
- Ice in the veins - Improves a player's free throw percentage during critical moments. Free throws made in the second half of close games or overtime periods are encouraged. In addition, the free throw timing window becomes larger.
- Pick & Popper - Increases the shot percentage for an attempt removed from a pick and fade situation. Attempts to shoot that occur after adjusting a screen are stimulated if the shooting occurs far enough from the edge and within a few seconds of adjusting the screen.
- Faux Maestro Pump - Decreases the penalty that comes from shooting after counterfeits. Shortens the timer which determines how long after a false push-up a player can shoot without incurring a shot percentage penalty.
- Range Extender - Extends the range from which a player can shoot effectively. Adds extra distance to a player's given shot range for mid-range and 3PT shots.
- Slippery Off-Ball - Strengthens the player's ability to open the ball. When attempting to open off screens, the player navigates traffic more efficiently.
- Regular shot - Reduced penalties for contested hits and bonuses for open hits. Shot attempts that are contested receive less penalty, but open shot attempts do not receive as much bonus.
- Tireless shooter - Improves a player's ability to take shots when tired. Shot attributes on jump shots suffer a lower penalty than normal when fatigued.
- Volume shooter - Increases shot percentages as shot attempts accumulate throughout the game. Once a player has taken a small handful of shots, an additional shot attribute boost is given for each shot next, whether it is a success or a failure.
Playmaking
- Ankle breaker - Improves the likelihood of freezing or knocking down a defender during dribbling moves. When performing backsteps and other movements, the defender stumbles or falls more frequently when biting in the wrong direction.
- Replenish - Increases the chances of a successful pass in flight. Passing out from a jump or layup results in fewer stray passes than normal.
- Starter pause - Improves a player's ability to make effective exit passes after grabbing a rebound. After catching a defensive board, deep exit passes formed on the court are more precise. Passes should be made quickly after the defensive rebound.
- Downhill - Increases overall speed with the ball in transition. Grants a player's Speed with Ball attribute in Quick Break situations.
- Dream shake - Increases the chances of a defender biting while scything the post. Post-move knockoffs are more likely to stun a defender. In addition, attempted shots after post moves and counterfeit shots have an increased shot percentage.
- Flashy passer - Gives an extra boost to the player's Takeover meter after completing an assist with a flashy pass.
- Handles for days - Reduces the amount of energy lost when performing dribbling movements. A player takes less energy when performing consecutive dribbling moves, allowing them to string together combos faster and for longer periods of time.
- Lob Town Gateway - Improves the chance of a successful alley-oop pass. When throwing an alley-oop pass, an attribute bonus is given to the passer and the receiver to improve the chances of success.
- Needle threader - Increases the likelihood that difficult passes can go through the defense. When passing through a narrow window between defenders, a boost is given to the player's passing ability.
- Pass the false maestro - Increases the effectiveness of false passes. Counterfeits get faster and tighter, making them more useful for priming defense.
- Post spin technician - Improves the ability of a post-spin or workout to function effectively. Attempting to do post-turns or drives results in more efficient movements and less chance of being stripped.
- Quick first step - Provides more explosive first steps out of Triple Threat and size increases. When emerging from a triple threat or after a size increase, ball handlers have access to faster, more efficient throws.
- Creator of space - Improves a player's ability to create space from a defender. When you do a recoil or a shot, there is a greater chance of successfully creating a separation with the opponent.
- Stop & Go - Improves a player's ability to start and stop with the ball. Allows the ball handler to start and stop quickly with unique stops and throws exclusive to this badge.
- Tight handles - Improves a player's ability to break his defender. Increases a player's ball handling ability in heightened situations, making it easier to destroy the defender on ball.
- Unpluckable - Reduces the chance of being stripped by the defender. When performing dribbling movements, defenders have a harder time releasing the ball with their attempts to fly.
Defense / Rebound
- boîte - Improves the player's ability to box his opponents.
- Brick wall - Increases the effectiveness of screens and drains energy from opponents on physical contact. This badge makes it more difficult for the defense to pass through or around screens. Players hit by contact with a brick wall lose more energy than normal.
- Artiste Chase Down - Increases the chance of getting a pursuit block. Increases a player's speed and jumping ability when chasing an attacking player in anticipation of a block attempt.
- tongs - Increases the ability to stay in front of the ball handler on the perimeter. Defenders have access to faster cutoffs and perform better when bumping into or straddling the ball handler.
- Heart crusher - Decreases opponent's takeover counters when performing a climax game on defense. After successfully blocking or stealing the ball from an opponent, an additional penalty is imposed on the opposing player's take-over meter.
- Interceptor - Increases the chances of getting robberies in passing lanes.
- Bully - Intimidates offensive players, causing them to miss shots more often. Offensive players have lower marksmanship success when challenged by players with this badge. It also increases shot defense ratings when keeping an opponent tightly.
- Lightning reflexes - Receives an earlier signal on the Read and React system while playing defense.
- Moving truck - Strengthens the ability of a defender to move people around the post. Players are more effective at pushing opponents off the post while playing defense.
- Pest out of bale - Makes players more difficult to pass when playing without the ball, as they can grab and hold their game and not break their ankles as often.
- Choose Dodger - Improves a player's ability to navigate effectively through defending screens.
- Choose Pocket - Improves a player's ability to steal the ball from a ball handler. Increases the chance of a steal and reduces the chance of a foul when attempting to strip a ball from a ball handler. Also improves the chances of success of overlay bands.
- Pogo stick - Improves the ability to attempt multiple blocks in succession. Allows players to quickly ascend for another blocking attempt while landing.
- Lock after moving - Improves the defender's ability to defend post movements.
- Rebound fighter - Improves a player's ability to chase rebounds.
- Rim protector - Improves ability to block shots, increases takeover counter for blockers / teammates.
- Tireless defender - Reduces the energy lost during the defense effort. Allows defenders to play defense more aggressively without wasting energy at the same rate as a normal player
- Trapper - Makes life difficult for the offensive player when trapped. When trapping offensive players, defenders are more effective at forcing recoveries and reversals than normal.
- Earthworm - Allows rebounders to swim or turn around boxes more easily.
