Does Assassin's Creed Rift exist? Ubisoft may have indirectly confirmed it

Does Assassin's Creed Rift really exist, or is it just an unsubstantiated rumor? It's probably still too early for Ubisoft to officially unveil details about the future of the series, but during the last shareholders meeting they might have indirectly confirmed the existence of the game.

For those of you who don't know what we're talking about, as reported last week, a Bloomberg report signed by Jason Schreier could have unveiled in advance Assassin's Creed Rift, a game born from a rib of Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Literally. It would be, in fact, a huge DLC of the latest chapter of the series turned into a standalone game. Rift, still according to Schreier's sources, will feature Basim as the protagonist, will be set before the events of Valhalla and will be smaller in size than the series' standards, with a release date set between late 2022 and early next year.

During the latest shareholder meeting, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot responded to a question about rumors regarding the future of the Assassin's Creed series, stating:

"Regarding the question about Rift, I think what we can say is that we will not make any further statements on this rumor. What we can say is that we have a very solid roadmap for the Assassin's Creed franchise in the coming years, with significant content every year. We have reaffirmed our focus on creating high-quality narrative works, and today we are happy to celebrate Valhalla's stellar performance so far."

Not only did Ubisoft's CEO not deny the indiscretion, but, as Schreier points out on Twitter, the analyst who asked the question did not mention the name "Rift," something Guillemont did when formulating his response. For the Bloomberg journalist, this would be a confirmation, albeit indirect, of the game's existence.

A theory, perhaps a bit forced, but one that should not be dismissed out of hand. In any case, Schreier is one of the most reliable sources in the industry, so regardless, the Bloomberg report is at least credible.
