Since Bravely Default 2 is a very narrative game, I'll try to keep any spoilers to a minimum. Cinematic details will be sparse and characters will only be named as needed. Additionally, this walkthrough will follow a checklist format to keep things short and to the point. I'll list the monsters encountered along the critical path (to include their weaknesses), and treasure chests (along with what they contain). Enemies and bosses are natural but necessary spoilers. So I will mark this article with a slight spoiler warning, and I will beat each boss with a more obvious spoiler warning.
Bravely Default 2 Walkthrough Prologue Part 1
Halcyonia
- Wake up at the inn with a cutscene.
- Once it ends, open the chest directly behind you to
- Speak to the innkeeper directly outside the room.
- Cutscene will play automatically when you see her.
- An unmarked card will be displayed.
- Will get the map after the cutscene ends
- Exit the hostel and follow the road south of town towards the coast.
- A cutscene will play after you leave town.
- Once outside the city you will enter the world map and the east coast just down the road and to the left (depending on the camera).
- If you look at the minimap, the coast is due east, then slightly south. Adjust your camera to face Halcyonia to see the yellow marker indicating the coast.
- A cutscene will trigger once we reach any part of the range.
- You will be attacked by a pair of Goblins, and Bravely Default 2 will only allow you to attack by burning BP with the Brave command.
- Go ahead and burn three BP to attack four times (twice per goblin) - you won't take any actual damage from the goblins (it's a tutorial battle after all).
- Launch Default to trigger a cutscene in combat, where two allies will join the fight.
- From there, you are free to attack as you see fit.
- Goblins are weak against water spells (Blizzard, etc.) and sword damage.
- A cutscene will play after the battle.
- After the post-battle cutscene, Elvis and Adelle will join your party and you will be tasked with returning to Halcyonia.
- That said, another cutscene will play after the first.
- Once the second cutscene is complete, head back up (i.e. west) towards the city.
- There are monsters on the field now, so tap them to increase their power or avoid them (I recommend fighting at least a few for experience, JP, and gold).
- There are Ratbitts, Wolves, Goblins, and Orcs in the area, as well as a few chests slightly set back from the main road.
- Goblins (humanoids) are weak against water and swords.
- Orcs (humanoids) are weak against fire and bows.
- Wolves (beast) are weak against fire and daggers.
- Ratbitts (Beast) are weak against water, dagger, and sticks.
- You can also view tasks and abilities in the main menu at this point.
- A cutscene will play once back in town; you will have to save Gloria by venturing into an abandoned warehouse north of the city.
- Sir Sloan will join your party as an occasional companion.
- You cannot control it in combat, nor can you change its equipment, work, or abilities.
- Before leaving town, go up the stairs to the palace, where there is one in the chest on the right.
- There is also one in a chest located in the tower at the bottom of the stairs near the old man. Go down and enter the tower to loot it.
- BE SURE TO REST AT THE HOSTEL BEFORE YOU GO.
- Sir Sloan will join your party as an occasional companion.
- Leave town and follow the road west around the ridge, then north according to the minimap to reach the abandoned building where Gloria is kept.
Bravely Default 2 Prologue Part 1 Dungeon: Outlaw’s Hideout
- Welcome to your first Bravely Default 2 dungeon! A cutscene will play before you can explore and fight your way to the boss battle.
- Enemies within are Goblins, Magelings, Bronzegoyles, Ghost Knights, and Freyr.
- Magelings (humanoids) are weak against lightning and swords.
- Bronzegoyles (demons) are weak in lighting, wind, and sticks.
- Ghost Knights (Undead) are weak towards Holy and Axes. Absorb the darkness.
- Freyr (Spirit) is weak against Water and Light.
- There are nine chests in the Outlaw's Den dungeon:
- The first leading side piece (.
- Go up the first hallway and enter the room right in front of you. Go down the stairs and hang immediately to the right, then descend into the lower room (trap with two Bronzegoyals; Battle Ax rewards).
- Come back upstairs and follow the hallway to the right. The second room has the third chest ()
- After returning to the hallway, head right once more and immediately go up into the next, wider hallway. Follow it to the right to find the fourth chest (
- Go down the stairs to this room and follow the hallway all around until you reach three chests (
- The other two chests can be found after you've gone upstairs.
- Go up the stairs at the end of the hallway on the first floor to trigger a cutscene before moving on to the second floor.
- There will be a dungeon portal here, which can be used to teleport to and from the dungeon entrance. Use it to leave and return to town to purchase items and equipment as needed.
- The last two chests are located:
- Head to the far left of the giant ballroom which you immediately enter on the second floor and follow the hallway until you can turn right. Follow this until you reach the room at the far end, where the two chests await you (
- After grabbing the two chests, back down the hallway and descend to reach a save point and a hallway leading to the Outlaw's Hideout boss fight in Bravely Default 2.
- Save your game and use a tent if you need to.
- A long cutscene will play before the fight.
- You will have a choice during this: head towards the light to continue playing.
- Enemies within are Goblins, Magelings, Bronzegoyles, Ghost Knights, and Freyr.
Selene (white mage) and Dag (vanguard)
- Selene: 2457 health, weak against fire, swords, and bows.
- Dag: 3822 HP, weak against lightning, daggers and staves. Has + 20% physical defense.
- You can now perform special attacks with the main character, although Sir Sloan will really lead the boss battle with heavy attacks and healing.
- A complete guide to the boss battle can be found here, but to recap:
- Hit the attack on Selene as she's the healer (she's especially weak at darts if you have them), and keep an eye on your party's health.
- Don't push many Brave attacks in the hopes of killing her - she will simply heal while waiting for your AP to reach zero.
- She will also prioritize healing if she gets weak, so make sure you have a character with daggers or a Lightning magic chip in Dag.
- Sir Sloan will provide seriously injured characters, but make sure you have a potion handy just in case.
- He will also use to resurrect downed characters.
- Hit the attack on Selene as she's the healer (she's especially weak at darts if you have them), and keep an eye on your party's health.
Bravely Default 2 Prologue Part 1 Final
- A cutscene will play after the fight, and once it ends, Gloria will join the party.
- Either exit the dungeon by returning to the portal at the start of the second floor, or by using a
- Return to Halcyonia to advance the story.
- If you want to improve your new jobs a bit, you can always take on a few monsters along the way.
- Once in town, another cutscene will play and the party will “dissolve”.
- You have to "look around town to advance the prologue: there is a mandatory tutorial side quest that you have to pick up in the first building at the top of the stairs towards the palace (the blue text bubble)."
- This side quest is simple: the old lady of the coast wants you to take a ride on her boat sooner, and by walk I mean "give you a boat".
- Congratulations, you have unlocked Explorations in Bravely Default 2.
- After the boat returns from your first exploration, you will complete the side quest and can resume the prologue.
- This side quest is simple: the old lady of the coast wants you to take a ride on her boat sooner, and by walk I mean "give you a boat".
- Head to the Inn after completing the side quest to advance the story.
- A long cutscene will play and you will complete the first part of the prologue. There will be additional side quests in Halcyonia, and you'll need to head east to the desert town of Savalon to continue.
