Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Increase Inventory Space

If you're a fan of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you'll know how important it is to have plenty of space to store the items we collect. Unfortunately, when we arrive on the island, we'll only be able to take 20 items with us (the Stars don't take up space, but they'll start taking up space when we accumulate more than 100,000).

As the most fond of the saga will surely know, having so much space available means you can accumulate more objects, avoiding having to make more trips to deposit everything you don't need to empty your pockets. What has been said now will not only save us time, but will prove to be extremely useful when we explore a new island, because what we cannot take with us will be lost forever.

Although the space in this latest instalment of the Nintendo franchise is still larger than we saw in Animal Crossing and New Leaf, there's good news for you: we can easily expand the space in our inventory to double the capacity. What we need is just a little time... and some Nook Miles.

How to increase the space in our pockets

One of the new features of New Horizons is an ATM-like machine that Tom Nook has placed inside the Residents Services, which will initially look like a tent in the middle of the city and then, as the island develops, will become a real building, with a sort of secretary who, needless to say, is one of the most beloved characters in the series: Fuffi. If you don't know how to improve the Residents' Services tent, consult our guide.

This terminal is useful for some things, like Tom Nook's mail order shopping, using asbestos, managing our bank balance, and getting new loans. Also, the ATM can be used to exchange Nook Miles for bonuses of various kinds.

Nook Miles are basically a new currency introduced by Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Basically, the miles in question are real achievements, which will be awarded on the basis of a series of actions that you will perform. Tearing away weeds, catching bugs (if in doubt, read our Insect Guide), spending Stars, even just collecting Nook Miles will accumulate this currency. As you can see for yourself, it's a virtually endless cycle.

What are the Nook Miles for

Nook Miles can be spent on a lot of things at the terminal mentioned above, including tickets to fly temporarily to other islands, new crafting recipes, extra items and other bonuses to unlock. At some point in the game, you'll also be able to exchange Nook Miles directly with the Stars, giving you an additional chance to accumulate large amounts of money in a short time. Among the various bonuses to unlock, there are Pocket Organization Guides that, if purchased, will add ten available spaces to your inventory.

However, these new spaces won't always be available on the terminal. They will become available, just like the rest of the inventory, as your island expands. After you've made some progress, you'll be able to see the first inventory expansion slot, but be warned: it'll be almost a week before you get the first of these bonuses.

Later - in about the same time it will take the Residents' Services to move from the Tent to the Building, the next inventory expansion update will appear. Both will cost thousands of Nook Miles, but by this point in the game, you should have accumulated ten thousand or more.
