If you've owned an Android device for a while, then it's almost certainly what an OTA update. For the uninitiated, OTA stands for "over the air" that is wireless. The OTA update is therefore that update of the Android operating system that occurs automatically and directly online via the Wi-Fi connection. Usually when an OTA update is available for your device, you will receive a warning that appears on the phone screen and you can proceed with the installation of the update by clicking on “Accept”.
To receive an OTA update it is essential to be under a stable network (Wi-fi or 3g / 4g) because it allows you to quickly download the firmware that can also reach large dimensions. Unfortunately, the OTA update is not always successful. There are a lot of users who are unable to perform an OTA update or never receive notification of the update itself, and are therefore unable to update their Android device.
In general, here are the main causes that they could cause OTA update issues o inability to receive the update itself on the device:
- Presence on the device d permessi in root, modified kernels o recovery: all this can to make impossible the completion of the procedure or even the detection of the update itself
- Lack of internet connection (both Wifi and 3G / 4G networks)
- Update servers temporarily unreachable
- Lack of enough space in the memory of the Android device
- Problem with installing firmware update on phone
These mentioned above are the top 5 causes of problems associated with the OTA update. In these cases, you can try the following solutions:
A) Make sure there is no active antivirus software on your phone that may be blocking receiving the OTA update
B) Try again at a later time to search for the update. You can also manually search for the update by going to phone settings and accessing the entry Info on the device > Software Updates. If the update appears click on the button Update.
C) If the update is seen but does not download, try to force it by going in Settings > Applications and selecting the tab All. Then enter the section Software updates and click on the button Clear data.
D) Last and extreme solution is that of resetting the phone.
Alternative to the OTA Update
If all the attempts described above are unsuccessful then you just have to find alternative solutions to update your device. It is possible to update manually by downloading the “firmware” (or ROM) from certain sites and then using programs such as ODIN. Unfortunately, this procedure is not within everyone's reach and if you are not very practical you risk permanently damaging the phone.
A certainly simpler procedure for updating the device is to make use of the program dr.Fone per Android. Within this program a series of functions are available including a call "REPAIR”And that allows you to go and install the latest operating system for the phone in our possession. At the moment the program supports Samsung models but over time it will add support for other Android devices as well.
Here is how to use dr.Fone to update your device, especially if it is malfunctioning. However, this update could erase the data so we recommend that you first back up your mobile.
Here is the link from which you need to download the trial version of the program:
After installation you will see:
Click on the writing REPAIR to open a function that we need to update the mobile.
On the left click on ANDROID REPAIR and a new window will open in which you will have to select the model of your mobile phone, the country, the operator (put OPEN if it is a phone that works with all SIMs), etc….
Click on the bottom right Following and then the program will ask you to connect the device to the computer (via USB) and put it in "download mode" (to do this you simply have to follow the graphic instructions in the program).
Once the device is in "Download Mode", dr.Fone will be able to download the new operating system and immediately proceed with its installation.
The update will be completed in about ten minutes.
