In 2012 the world understood the power of Marvel Cinematic Universe, media franchise of superhero movies based on the characters of the Marvel Comics and produced by Marvel Studios, the film and television studio founded by Marvel Entertainment. In that year, in fact, The Avengers, a project that everyone saw as impossible, not only arrived in the room, but also broke countless records at the box office. In the same year, the idea of creating a great MCU narrative universe (which many would try to replicate) became more concrete so much so that the Californian film studio decided it was time to push its boundaries. This is how the TV series Agents of SHIELD (Marvel's Agents of SHIELD), protagonist of the appointment of Why watch it? of today. Let's find out the reasons why you should give Phil Coulson and associates a chance.

Why watch it: Agents of SHIELD, discovering Marvel's trench soldiers
Strategic Homeland Enforcement and Logistics Division. This is the name of one of the most important organizations in the Marvel universe, known by its acronym SHIELD which, as Agent Ward jokes in the first episode, is definitely forced. Specifically, it is an intelligence agency called to support Marvel superheroes and to collaborate with them for the defense of the Earth from all kinds of paranormal threats.

The HYDRA, the Inhumans and the Kree are some of the antagonists and threats our agents face to defend the Earth.

In numerous episodes we are faced with real crossovers with other MCU movies and TV series. In fact, in Agents of SHIELD it is not uncommon to come across other protagonists and characters from the Marvel universe, and vice versa.
TV and film trend, the roads are moving away
Agents of SHIELD is in effect a commercial product, born to try to extend the great superhero franchise beyond the confines of the big screen. An experiment half-successful, given that with the passing of the seasons (also due to some problems behind the scenes) the television and cinema trend they drift further and further away. But despite all this, don't make the mistake of seeing this television series as a product without soul, nor quality.
The show repeatedly proves to be perfectly capable to combine a wide public appeal with high quality. The fact that he doesn't have a true artistic intent like other titles we've talked about in this column doesn't stop him from creating moments of great television. This regardless of what his 'big brothers' did on the big screen.

Agents of SHIELD: the ability not to fossilize on the characters
One of the aspects that should be recognized most by Agents of SHIELD is its ability not to 'sit' and replicate a fixed formula. It would have been easy to create a television series in which a team of agents faces a new threat each week as a horizontal plot progresses. And often this series follows this formula, but fortunately not always. Indeed, its plot is constantly renewing, living without fear of change.
Character development
This starting from the main characters. Coulson's team is incredibly alive and they will be there many variations in training or even simply in roles, with rearguard figures that become more relevant, in an absolutely natural way. Likewise, the characters change and grow, showing new sides of themselves, being profoundly revolutionized in the process. Thinking back to how they were at the beginning, once you get to the end of the series, is definitely disorienting.
Narrative strands and plots
The plot development is captivating and full of (truly) surprising twists. In reality, rather than talking about a single storyline, we should talk about multiple storylines. Another exceptional merit of this series is in fact the ability of its authors to go beyond and create multiple narrative strands, which develop over different time spans.
Many episodes tell of the "case of the week", which contributes to the development of a story that lasts for the entire season. However, these cases are often accompanied by other elements and stories, which create an additional level of plot.
In short, in some episodes the authors are unable to give only exciting stories for those forty minutes or for what will arrive in the short term, but also to lay the groundwork for the events of the following season and beyond. A very elaborate plot, which will make the moment of revelation even more exciting and incredible.
Agents of SHIELD: Get on the Bus and join the Marvel squad
If before the debut this could have seemed a show intended only for lovers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, now that it has ended we can say that It is not so. On the one hand because, as we said, the link with the films of the franchise has become increasingly weak and secondary. On the other hand, because Agents of SHIELD has proven to absolutely not need support of other 'big names' to have substance.
The adventures of Coulson, Skye and associates are catchy and they will be able to amuse and amaze and sometimes even tear a tear. Agents of SHIELD is probably one of the best examples of commercial television in recent years which, despite everything, manages not to compromise on quality. This is why you absolutely cannot miss it.
