YouTube plans to ditch the YouTube app on the third generation of AppleTV, where it has been a channel since its launch.
A 9to5Mac reader received a message about that abandonment, which will take place in March.
From the beginning of March, the YouTube app will not be available on Apple TV (3rd generation). You can continue watching YouTube on Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, iPhone or iPad. Using AirPlay, you can wirelessly stream YouTube from your iOS device directly to any Apple TV model (3rd generation or later).
This abandonment only applies to the third generation Apple TV, as YouTube is no longer available on the second generation Apple TV in 2015. Fourth generation Apple TVs are not affected as they have access to the tvOS App Store which is not. available on third generation on Apple TV.
The third generation of Apple TV was released in 2012 and 2013.
In this way, YouTube joins other important channels that are not available on third generation Apple TV devices, such as HBO.
Apple TV +, Netflix and Amazon Prime are available.

Following the death of HBO's Apple TV Channel, Apple offered customers a refund on Thursday for any unused portion of their subscription and a discount for HBO Max.
HBO officially closed Apple TV channels for all users earlier today, urging existing subscribers to migrate to its standalone HBO Max app. Apple subsequently informed users of the situation and began issuing refunds.
Apple notes that the offer is available for a limited time and ends on September 7. 5, 2021.
Users who previously subscribed to HBO via the Apple TV channel did so using their Apple ID. Now, with the channel removed and the ability to sign in with a lost Apple ID, some users are left without sign in until further notice. Other users were able to regain access to their account by creating a new HBO Max account using the same email address used in their Apple ID.
The cable company retired from Apple TV channels in 2020 when it launched its own premium app, HBO Max, on various platforms. Subscribers have maintained access to the service through the Apple TV app to this day.
