It just goes to show that you may be one of the most popular and influential YouTubers in your country, but the rules are the same for all users. Lucas Hauchard, alias Squeezie, had the bitter experience, as he just announced on Instagram. Indeed, YouTube decided to suspend the videographer's account for a week, for copyright infringement on a video published in 2021.

The video in question, which has more than 9 million views, focused on various conspiracy theories, including the Platists, this famous community that believes the Earth is flat. “A 2021 video that takes a strike, banned from uploading for 7 days,” Squeezie wrote on his Instagram account.

Because of this sanction, the Youtubeur is unable to post content or organize lives on his main channel. Still, the videographer will continue to offer content on Twitch and on his secondary channel on YouTube. “Sorry to have disappointed you, I will not do it again, I am in full question”, assured Squeezie in an Instagram story unavailable since.

YouTube is no laughing matter with copyright

As a reminder, YouTube has made the fight against copyright infringement its hobbyhorse in its last years. In March 2021, Google's platform also launched YouTube Checks, a feature capable of spot copyright infringements even before a video is posted. Checks is now the ultimate check before a video is posted, and takes a maximum of 4 minutes to verify whether or not the content meets the standards set by YouTube.

When an irregularity is detected, YouTube automatically turns off video monetization. Checks then takes care of indicating the procedure to follow to the videographers at fault to restore the monetization of their content. As announced by the platform in April 2021, YouTube has removed no less than 83 million videos and 7 billion comments in three years, whether for copyright violations, the publication of violent or racist content, and many other reasons.
