With AirPods and an iPhone, one can easily spy on whatever is going on in the next room. To remotely listen to everything that is happening or being said, all you have to do is activate an option and discreetly leave your smartphone in the chosen place. Be careful, the walls have ears.
Apple has integrated an option called “listening in real time” into its iPhones.. Aimed at users who have a disability and wear a hearing aid, the feature will use the smartphone's microphones to improve sound reproduction. Thus, if you go to a noisy place, the hearing device, connected wirelessly to the iPhone, will be able to rely on the sounds perceived by the telephone.

"Apple has collaborated with the main manufacturers in the sector to create hearing aids and audio processors specially designed for the iPhone and the iPad" explains the American firm on its website. Unsurprisingly, the option is reserved for a handful of compatible hearing aids. It also works with AirPods. Thereby, a person with hearing loss may use their headphones as a hearing aid.
By hijacking an option of AirPods and iPhone, one can easily spy on those around him
At the beginning of January, an American Internet user realized that this option could easily be diverted from its original purpose. To do this, all you need to do is bring a pair of AirPods, the brand's successful wireless headphones, and an iPhone running iOS 12.
How to use your AirPods to spy on a room:
- Go to the Settings of your iPhone
- Go to Control Center
- Then in Customize orders
- In the Other commands section, add Audition
- Return to the home screen
- Access the Control Center by sliding your finger up and down
- Press the Audition shortcut, represented by the icon of an ear
- Activate Listen in real time
Once the option is activated, you have to leave your iPhone in the room you want to spy on. The sound heard by the iPhone's microphones is automatically redirected to your AirPods. You will thus hear everything that is being said in the room without being there. Warning, this trick will work as long as you do not exceed a distance of 10-15 meters. Once this distance is exceeded, the Bluetooth connection may become impossible.
