It has been 2 million years since man appeared on Earth. In the darkness of space and beyond the nebulae, a plan is hatched to invade the planet that does not know that it will soon go through the greatest crisis in its history. The premise of Look V, Japanese anime that we will face this week, is a real classic of the 80s. In fact, aliens aim to take possession of our beautiful planet to make us comfortable. But realizing their plan won't be that easy. Let us therefore abandon the sentimentality seen in last week's column with Pollyanna to immerse ourselves in a totally different mood with a new battle to save the Earth.
Form XNUMX: la trama
The invasion of the Earth and the 5 special warriors
On a spaceship from the planet Boazan, principe Sirius aims at the Earth, admitting that he wants to conquer it to enrich the living space of its population. This is why human beings must be exterminated. Meanwhile, on Earth, alarmed by the imminent arrival of the alien invaders, we are preparing for their arrival with the deployment of armies. There are however 5 special warriors - Michel, Ivan, Carl, Gepi and Sonya - who are finishing their training: while the enemies put the planet to fire and sword, the 5 fighters are transported to the base Big Falcon which is located on a secret island. In this place, created specifically for moments of serious crisis, Professor Esperus together with Doctor Annabelle, which is the mother of three of the five boys of the special team, show them the Look V (or Vultus 5), a powerful robot that will be able to counter the invaders. Each of the 5 fighters will be in charge of a wing of the robot. Only when the 5 parts are brought together will the powerful weapon be created.
The sacrifice of Dr. Annabelle
If the first battle between Looking XNUMX to Boazani ends in favor of the former, the latter do not give up and are ready to take revenge. After locating the robot's secret base, they decide to attack it. Meanwhile, in a flashback, we discover that Kentarus, the father of Dr. Annabelle's three children - Michel, Ivan and Carl - left the Earth just to go to Boazan to try to stop their aims on the planet by any means, leaving his wife the task of training their children for possible enemy attack. Many years have passed since then and that is why man is given up for dead. Back in current times, the boazans attack the secret base and injure the mother of the three boys who, with a desperate gesture, decides to sacrifice her life to save her children and Vultus 5.
The conspiracy against Prince Sirius
The story of Look V goes on in a thousand fights. The Boazani have quite a few monsters at their disposal to deploy against the earthlings to be able to destroy them but, from time to time, the 5 manage to win, not without important losses and enormous difficulties. in the meantime Prince Sirius receives a visit from the general Zaki. Unofficially he arrived to check on Sirius' work but, in reality, he was sent by theemperor Zambazir to kill him. The mission is to make Sirius die in a fight, on the other hand it is precisely for this reason that he chose him for the mission. The prince comes from the former royal family: the current emperor has tricked Sirius' father into usurping the throne and fears that he can now claim it. Zaki then decides to provide Vultus V's team with all the details of the monster with which Sirius will personally fight Sirius this time to prove his worth, but the latter is warned in time and finally manages to save himself.
Kenzarus is alive and he is a boazan!
A turning point in history comes when it turns out that Kentarus, the father of the three boys of Vultus 5, is still alive and is held captive by the boazans. After numerous deceptions against the man and the team, Kentarus manages to escape from his enemies aboard a ship. Too bad that, just one step away from meeting the children, it ends up in the sea and disappears. A little further on it turns out that actually Kentarus is not human but he is a boazan! The enemies that appear in the anime all have horns but it is explained that these are the privileged members of the population, aristocrats and destined for power. At the same time, hornless inhabitants are also born, renegades and considered slaves. The man is the son of the younger brother of the emperor of the time but, to prevent him from living a life as a slave, he was equipped with artificial horns. However, when he was presented with the possibility of ascending the throne as heir, he was unmasked by the emperor's courtesan and mother of his son Zambazir, who is in fact the current emperor. Kentarus was mixed with the slaves but fled the planet, arriving on earth. Here he then fell in love, married and had three children who, therefore, they are half boazani.
The end
The twists are not over. Kentarus, who seemed to have disappeared again, not only is he still alive, but also designed a powerful spaceship, the solar bird, which can reach the planet Boazan at great speed. Arriving here, he is kidnapped again, this time to be executed. With a radio proclamation, however, he starts the slave revolt of which he himself was a part. When things on Earth turned bad, Prince Sirius was brought back against his will to Boazan and safely hidden away. His fighting spirit, however, requires him to participate in the battle, even if it means dying. On the contrary, Emperor Zambazir tries to escape and accuses Sirius of the failure who, disgusted by his cowardly behavior, kills him with a dagger. Right from the symbol of the prince's dagger, Kentarus realizes that he is the son of his wife of Boazan, love born before arriving on Earth. Upon hearing the truth about his father, Sirius realizes that the three boys from Vultus 5 are his half brothers. He then tries to defend them in battle but, when his partner is killed, he will let himself die in the flames.
The war finally comes to an end: Kentarus becomes the new leader of the planet Boazan, while Vultus is empowered so that he can reach the planet with ease. Both the Solar Bird and Vultus V return to Earth, which will finally experience a long period of serenity and peace.
Vultus V: curiosity
The Tadao Nagahama trilogy
We are in 1977 when the animated television series of the science fiction genre mecha entitled Vultus V comes out in Japan. It will arrive in Italy a few years later, in 1983, and will be broadcast on Rete A and other local broadcasters. The anime is the second chapter of the trilogy dedicated to the robots of Tadao Nagahama Sunrise / Toei. Note as "Robot Romance Trilogy”, This debuted the previous year in Japan with Combattler V, which as a structure already recalls the one we are dealing with. The third and last story is the one released in '78 by the title General Daimos. What unites the three chapters is not only the centrality of the figure of the robots but also a certain one drama in the stories, which are aimed at an audience not of children but of young people who are already a little older.
On the other hand, in Vultus V it is impossible not to notice a certain one complexity also in the relationships between the protagonists, made up of discoveries of unexpected kinship ties and important personal turning points (just think that Sirius, in the end, from being the first enemy then ends up leading the rebel revolt!) in this case to the story of Lady Oscar, anime of which he directed the first episodes.
Robots and enemies
Vultus V is the name of the robot of the heroes and, clearly, "V" which stands for 5 refers to the number of fighters who compose and guide it. The robot was designed by prof. Kentarus and Dr. Esperus and consists of 5 vehicles, each of which starts from the Big Falcon base. Each of the 5 parts has a well-defined position and function: the Volt Cruiser corresponds to the head of Vultus, is driven by Michel and has a supersonic jet; the Volt Bomber corresponds to the arms and is a combat air vehicle driven by Gepi; Volt tanks corresponds to the abdomen and is a flying tank driven by Ivan; Volt Frigate matches Vultus' legs and is a flying submarine driven by Carl; finally the Volt Lander it is driven by Sonja and is a land vehicle, it corresponds to the feet. His most powerful and ultimate weapon is the Excalibur sword. The enemies, on the other hand, do not have real robots: theirs are 'monsters', huge animals subjected to particular genetic treatments and reinforced with mechanical parts.
