While it sounds strange, with the iPad being one of the best-selling personal computers in the world, it's time Microsoft officially announced * that Word, PowerPoint and Excel for iPad will be updated to use the trackpad and mouse in iPadOS.
The apps will show a slider that becomes the tool you need at any time depending on the context, allowing for easy cursor control, smooth navigation and precise adjustment. Microsoft states that the Trackpad experience will be familiar to those who use Office on Mac or PC.
And using a mouse or trackpad with iPad for common tasks like highlighting a text passage in Word, selecting a range of cells in Excel, and moving and resizing graphics in PowerPoint will be easier and more intuitive than ever. This experience will be instantly familiar to anyone who has used Office on a Mac or PC and will help make iPad even more versatile and capable of doing more.
In addition to mouse and trackpad support, Microsoft is adding new splash screens and a new menu palette for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to facilitate a cleaner, more modern experience.
According to Microsoft, many users already have the updates through a rollout, which will reach 100% of users in a couple of weeks.
- It's Apple's fault if they haven't implemented the support until recently, we know.
