The output of the Apple AirPods 3 it seems to have been postponed: if we were expecting an announcement by the end of March, now it seems that we will have to wait for the third quarter of 2021. The new true wireless earphones from Apple therefore arrive after the summer, according to the most recent rumors.
The release of the new Apple AirPods 3 postponed to September
Recently, the esteemed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has moved the launch date of the new AirPods 3 to the third quarter of 2021. According to the insider, in fact, the new generation of headphones it should launch along with the iPhone 13 (if it will be called that, we do not know if there is any superstitious person in Apple). This new release date contradicts the expectations we had so far for a launch at Apple's spring event on March 23. In fact, in this event we were waiting for the AirTags, the new iPads but also Cupertino wireless headphones. Instead, it seems that we will have to wait a few months instead of a few days.
Kuo in his report explains that at the moment Apple's headphones they are not ready for mass production: we do not know if due to problems in the supply chain (which all companies have had this year) or due to a very specific launch strategy. It could in fact be a pause due to the recent launch of the AirPods Max: Apple doesn't want to launch too many audio products in such a short amount of time.
The future of Cupertino audio
Kuo's report also investigates the future of Apple's audio products. According to the analyst, in fact, Apple should see a decline in demand for headphones in 2021, down from 90 million last year to 78 million in 2021. Additionally, Kuo expects to see Apple sell both the third and second generation of AirPods: the new model would act as an interlude between the AirPods 2 and the Pro, in order to cover more price ranges. Finally, Kuo believes that this year the AirPods Max can sell up to one million units. Not much by Apple standards, but in that price range it competes with products like those of Bose and Sony.
