Why look at it is the new Tech Princess column edited by Mattia Chiappani and Veronica Lorenzini, in which they reveal why you should watch a certain TV series: today's series is the English series Skins, available on the streaming platform of Netflix.
Skins, a "cult" series
Skins is one english tv series broadcast on E4 from 2007 to 2013 and follows the events of three groups of teenagers of Bristol during their last two years of high school. The series was then broadcast in 2008 on the MTV Italia channel and now, all seven seasons are available on Netflix streaming platform.
It is a very special TV series, as it faces sensitive topics such as personality disorders, eating disorders, drug abuse, sexuality and much more.
It can be considered an anthological series, as every two seasons the cast comes ccompletely renovated and new characters are added.
Only a few appear for more than two seasons, most notably that of Effy Stonem played by Kaya Scodelario, who we see present in the first four seasons and in two episodes of the seventh. Each episode of the series also deals with the story of a particular character among the various protagonists and delves into some aspects.
In this way the public is faced with numerous plots e sub-plots which, over the seasons, unite and intertwine with each other.
Skins for me has a very great emotional value, it is in fact one of the first TV series I've ever seen. This is an intense and different TV series from those that are in circulation and now I'll explain why.

Other times and real feelings
At first glance it may seem like a vulgar TV series, it has happened that some adults described it in this way only because you see teenagers having sexual intercourse o to smoke. What I am asking of you is to put all these prejudices aside and go beyond what you are seeing.
It is a series consisting of seven seasons: this means that it will not be immediately clear the behavior of a character or his personality. It's a kind of journey, what we have to do, a little journey that allows us to to know thoroughly each boy featured in the series.
It won't always be easy, most of them have one complex personality and it is good to pay attention to each element that is shown to us. I know that it seems like an immense effort to understand these guys, but in reality you should see it as a point in favor of the series. Why, you ask? Because we are faced with real characters, characterized at most and able to transmit deep emotions.
Each of them has been characterized to perfection, even the characters of the second floor or those that you dislike.
The purpose of the series is to represent reality, in particular that of young people and, even more specifically, that of young Englishmen during that particular period. And it does it better than you can imagine. Obviously I am no longer a teenager - sorry, I have a tiny spot in my eye - and i am not english so I looked on the Internet if the series represented their reality at least.
The answer is yes, both from the English and adolescent point of view and which, in part, I can confirm. No come on, I'm not that old guys, I still remember what it's like to be a young maid.
Anyway, back to the serious stuff. What I really appreciate is the way the producers allow us to get into the life of the characters and get to know them better. The thing I appreciate even more is the fact that it's not an easy thing to do because being able to understand what a teenager is feeling is tremendous difficult.
Full storyline and delicate themes
Having complex but also complete characters means having one ben outlinea plot e detailed. Each element, in one way or another, will be put in its place and fixed. An event that takes place in the first season, for example, will have more or less serious consequences in the following one.
Everything is connected in the most interesting and particular way possible and is able to intrigue the public more and more.
Another peculiarity of Skins is to face really delicate issues, some of which are considered real taboo by society, both at that time and now. It is not just about the themes but mainly about the way and I must say it is excellent.
Not only have the producers managed to stage these particular themes but they have also managed to do it in phenomenal way, sensitive but also direct e concise. Talking about these issues has allowed many teenagers to understand that they are not the only ones to face similar things.
In particular, however, it allowed the adults to understand, at least a little, what happens in the lives of young people. Action corresponds to a reaction and that is why, depending on what happens in their life, they behave in a certain way.
Obviously there will be the twists. I tell you, if you are expecting a completely pink and flowery series, you are on the wrong track. Skins is a series that will take you there bring the hard truth at you and leaves you there, on the sofa, with your eyes wide open.
Skins, so why should you watch it?
This is a series that anyone, young or old, should watch. We are faced with characters with a unique personality, problematic and at the same time fantastic, each of them shows us how hard it is being a teenager in today's world and why.
It shows us i problems they face every day, problems that in the eyes of an adult are nothing. The plot is interesting, full of details that allow us to perfectly outline each situation within the series.
It is one of the TV series more realistic I have ever seen, although there are some slightly excessive details - look at it and you will understand what I mean. For the rest, Skins is a series that has put itself on the line, that has had the courage to do it and has conquered the whole world.
Staging certain elements is not at all simple but the producers they did it perfectly. The name of the series refers to the English slang term for the light paper used to make cigarettes of any kind.
But Skins also makes you think of the term "skin" and in a certain sense that's what the series does, it gets inside you, under skin. Maybe I had the opportunity to watch it when I was still a child but it is a series that I have has changed, in the deepest sense of the term.
I am sure it will change you too. It is not too late to see it, or to see it again but also to see it for the third time.
