Sherlock, madness and genius nowadays: Why watch it?

Why look at it is the new Tech Princess column, edited by Mattia Chiappani and Veronica Lorenzini, in which they reveal why you should watch a certain TV series: the chosen series of the day is Sherlock, the series inspired by the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle available on Netflix.

Between genius and madness, here's Sherlock Holmes today

Sherlock is one British tv series of 2010, created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss: the series is inspired by the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the investigator and Martin Freeman as John Watson, his friend and assistant.

The peculiarity of this TV series is that it is set in London today, nowadays and not the one presented by Doyle in his writings. We know Watson, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, who is struggling to find his place in society. One day a friend of his suggests to him to find a roommate and to divide the expenses of an apartment with him.

After following his advice, Watson meets the eccentric Sherlock Holmes, who by profession is the private detective. The two will struggle at first, but over time they will become great friends. Another interesting feature of this series are the episodes: have been made four seasons - I still hope for a fifth - composed by themselves three episodes, lasting an hour and a half.

Let's face it, we are now friends: the idea of making Sherlock Holmes a private and modern detective, in modern day London, is brilliant. Each episode of the series it almost borders on perfection. Maybe this series with me wins easily and hands down because it is my favorite but if it has managed to beat any Korean series, there must be a reason.

The plot is obviously a very interesting element as it is inspired by Doyle's detective novels and short stories. All episodes, including the special The Abominable Bride, I'm a modern reinterpretation of these writings. What immediately catches the eye is, in fact, the modern element.

Our detective uses the technology we all know: has a blog on the internet (which is not very successful, at least not before Watson's arrival), he sends and receives SMS and use the system GPS, useful for solving his strange crimes.

We see him arguing with his brother Mycroft over his cellphone, receiving unprofessional messages from Miss Irene Adler and tartassare literally messages his poor friend Watson. Ultimately, however, it only does what Doyle wrote: it uses everything he has at his disposal to solve a case.

At one point, he and Watson even become gods phenomena of the web.

Another thing that immediately catches the eye, they are Message e notes that appear on the screen from time to time. When our detective is grappling with analyze it the victim on duty or a person just met, we see his intense gaze and information appear on the screen.

Age, particular signs, work and the like: this graphic and stylistic choice allows us to get in touch with what is happening. We almost feel closer to the protagonist and see things - or at least we try - since his point of view.

Characters of depth and who leave their mark

Sherlock, madness and genius nowadays: Why watch it?

From my humble point of view, I believe similar interpretations are more unique than rare. Let's start with the main character, played by my favorite actor: Benedict Cumberbatch. The way in which the actor manages to make the character of Holmes his own is almost scary.

We are facing a detective sociopath, easily irritable, So annoying that sometimes I would hit him myself, sometimes infant but a first-rate genius. This is probably Cumberbatch's best performance, which manages to make Sherlock Holmes the detective and friend, so to speak, of which all we need on the screen.

No one, outside of Benedict, could have played this character. The actor manages to make himself terribly annoying with his dry responses and superior demeanor. Also woe to anyone who interrupts him while he is in his Mental Palace. It makes it so annoying but, at the same time, we cannot do without adore you.

Her attention to details, Its psychopathic smile every time Lestrade tells him that there is a case to be solved and his very particular way to show affection for John Watson and others close to him.

In fact every character in Sherlock is characterized by the perfection and manages to make it memorable, only. Nevertheless, I feel compelled to mention the nemesis of our beloved detective: I'm talking about James Moriarty, played by another great actor, Andrew Scott.

We have another in front of us crazy psychopath, with a character unpredictable e histrionic but he too, like his rival, is a genius - I dare say, evil genius. He is smart, quick-witted and cunning. It is no coincidence that he is the number one enemy of our detective.

Again, this happens: we hate him, we would like to beat him at certain times but we cannot help but adore him. Her sudden jokes, Its sense of humor and especially his beloved ringtone of the mobile phone. If you are curious to know what it is, watch the first episode of the second season: you will not regret it.

I believe this tv series has the best cast of all time. Each character, each interpretation, is superb, unparalleled. Whenever I look at the series, I am amazed as if it were the first time: it is all so absurd and fascinating at the same time.

So why watch Sherlock?

Sherlock, madness and genius nowadays: Why watch it?

Sherlock is one complete series, only e almost perfect - I say almost because nothing in this world is, but the series of Moffat and Gatiss it comes very close. I think similar products happen once every thousand years (so to speak).

From the plot revisited and re-interpreted in places, the British accent that feels like a sweet melody to the real, human characters and a flawless soundtrack, this is the series everyone should see.

Each item in this series it works perfectly, each piece has been put in the right place and fits divinely with the rest. The genius behind every conversation, Sherlock's dig at his brother Mycroft and the plot in general, is just to be admired.

The way they were then characterized e brought to life the cases that our detective solves, each minimum detail: incredible.

Humor, tension, unpredictable jokes, genius and much more are present in this series.

A little tip: in original language makes it much better. So, if you can, let yourself be captured by the personality of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John Watson in their British tones.
