Razer ™, the world's leading lifestyle brand for gamers (Hong Kong Stock Code: 1337), today announced its agreement and partnership with marine debris cleaning company ClearBot on World Children's Day. Oceans today, June 8, 2021. In line with Razer's commitment to its #GoGreenWithRazer sustainability program for the next 10 years and which aims to support the environment through start-up investment agreements focused on sustainability, supporting them with the right tools and skills to help them grow.
With approximately 11 million tons of plastic waste ending up in the oceans each year, marine cleaning companies often face technological, cost and efficiency challenges. The ClearBot team designs robots that use artificial intelligence vision to detect different types of plastic waste and gather information to protect the oceans and their aquatic life. ClearBot robots are designed to recover this plastic waste for responsible disposal.
"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with an environmentally focused start-up," said Patricia Liu, chief of staff at Razer. “ClearBot's unique artificial intelligence and advanced machine learning technology will enable governments and businesses to step up their sustainability efforts. We urge startups to contact Razer for collaboration opportunities as we strive to make the world a safer place for future generations. "
Cleaning waste from the oceans with artificial intelligence technology
In partnership with ClearBot, Razer's engineers and design team volunteered their personal time and experience to help convert a scalable, marketable robot prototype. By leveraging Razer's vast knowledge and manufacturing experience, ClearBot was able to evolve the robot design into a smarter and more efficient one.
This newly developed, fully automated robot features state-of-the-art artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities that can detect plastic debris at two meters, even in rough water. The robot can collect up to 250 kg of plastic in a single cycle, while running on solar energy.
"The Razer's approach to team action has been very revealing in solving some problems in marine litter collection," said Sidhant Gupta, CEO of ClearBot. “With this new model we are confident to extend our reach globally to protect marine waters, starting with partners that include seaports in various parts of Asia and NGOs that have expressed great interest. Together with Razer, we hope to bring about positive change in the world. "
To encourage active participation on World Oceans Day, ClearBot launched an activity to collect marine debris data. The community is encouraged to upload photos of these litter found in marine waters to the ClearBot website. Its research and design team will add this information to the ClearBot database to help improve the robot's AI debris detection algorithm.
