Apple has always justified his decision to remove the chargers from the packaging of the new iPhone 12 as a eco-sustainable choice, to have less impact on the environment. At the presentation of the latest generation of smartphones, in fact, the Cupertino company stated that every family has many unused chargers and inserting a new one in the package would have been useless from a functional point of view and harmful to the environment. Users, from the beginning, thought that sustainability was just a justification, but after six months Apple has decided to publish a report showing the environmental benefits of the lack of iPhone 12 chargers.

Well yes, what seemed only a justification to be able to cut some production costs, has instead had its fruits from the point of view of eco-sustainability. Apple, in fact, has published theEnvironmental Progress Report 2021, its annual report where it usually announces the environmental progress of the year just ended. In the report it can be seen how much the removal of the iPhone 12 chargers has positively impacted. In fact, 861.000 tons of copper, tin and zinc were saved.
Furthermore, Apple has been able to significantly reduce the size of the packaging of the new iPhones also save paper and plastic used for packaging. The report reads how the use of plastic for packaging, since 2015, has been reduced by 65%. This reduction made it possible to decrease emissions from production and transport, as the smaller packages allow you to carry many more iPhones in one pallet. To be precise, 70% more packs than the iPhone 12.
All of Apple's efforts to reduce emissions have made it possible to go from the peak of 38,4 million tons of CO2 emitted in 2015 to 22,6 million tons in 2020.
