iRobot Roomba i7 + review
iRobot Roomba i7 + review - Personally, I love robotic vacuum cleaners. They are autonomous, they clean well and above all they integrate with the voice assistants, omnipresent in my home. All of this allows me to focus on work or distract myself during the weekend without worrying about getting rid of dust and crumbs from the floor.
iRobot Roomba i7 + however, it takes a step further than the competition and other products of the same brand: it empties itself.
iRobot Roomba i7 + review: the robot and the base
Once you open the box you will notice three different elements:
- a small tower, which acts as a charging base and which allows the robot to empty its contents after each cleaning cycle;
- a laser sensor that allows you to create a virtual wall, useful if you want to prevent access to a particular area (for example the stairs);
- the actual vacuum cleaner.
The latter is very reminiscent of the other models developed by iRobot: circular shape, a front bumper that helps it to soften small bumps, a camera on the top - which is used by the iAdap 3.0 navigation system -, a front camera that favors the return to the base and three small keys. The central one - with the inscription CLEAN - allows you to start cleaning, on the left the Home button to return to the charging station and to the right the Spot button which allows you to clean a limited area.
Turning the Roomba i7 + we find instead the dust tank, a sensor that helps to identify the dirtiest areas, two rubber rollers for the collection of dirt and a rotating brush that brings the dirt closer to the central part to facilitate its capture. A system that I particularly appreciated since it does not fill with hair - which is common with other similar products - and which guarantees a particularly high level of cleanliness.
Finally we have three wheels to allow the robot to move and also climb on any carpets, provided that they are rather massive. Otherwise, they suggest you remove them before cleaning, otherwise they will be moved by the iRobot Roomba i7 + during cleaning.
Up to this point it will all seem quite familiar. In short, we are talking about a product that inherits many features from previous models and draws on the experience gained over the years by the American company. Everything changes however when we consider the i7 + charging base which houses a hole that will mate with the robot tank. Using a powerful suction system, the dust is removed from the robot e collected in a bag positioned inside the tower. All of this happens automatically and you don't have to do anything at all. But be careful: I do not recommend doing it in the most delicate time slots because the process, however quick, is quite noisy.
I also leave you two important information:
1) is possible manually empty the robot by removing the tank;
2) the bag in the tower contains about 30 times the dirt of the full drawer, so it should last you several weeks. Once full, the application will inform you so you can change it, using the second bag supplied or buying another 3 at a cost of 20 euros.
- iRobot has over 30 years of experience in the world of robotics, with over 30 million home robots sold throughout ...
- Forget vacuuming for months; for 60 days, the i7 + automatically transfers the dirt into the Clean ...
- Thanks to its navigation technology, the i7 + can capture and remove dirt wherever you want, whenever you want; And...
To control it, an application is enough
Now that we understand what this product is made of, let's try to understand how it works.
Again, you will have to do very little. Once you have connected the base to a power outlet, inserted the bag in the appropriate housing and positioned the robot, you just have to download the dedicated application - iRobot Home - and follow the instructions on the screen. Nothing complicated. You just have to connect it to the Internet, associate the account with the product and then you are free to change the language, change the cleaning preferences and, of course, program it.
Once everything is set up, you can start the first cleaning cycle, essential to help the iRobot Roomba i7 + map your home. Obviously, a single step will not be enough: the more you use the product, the more precise and reliable the iAdapt 3.0 navigation system will become.
At this point you will ask yourself how to start cleaning, especially if you have not already scheduled it. Three possible methods:
- the Clean and Spot keys on the robot;
- the application with the dedicated button;
- voice commands.
Yes, the iRobot Roomba i7 + can be controlled both using Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. In the first case you will have to set it using the Google Home app, in the second you will have to install the dedicated skill.
But how does it clean?
Really great. The product cleans flawlessly, does not leave out any areas and over the weeks it has become more and more efficient. More can recognize the most complex areas and to focus his forces there. A change you will notice as the LED circulating the Clean button will change from white to blue.
It is impossible not to appreciate its independence since in a month I have never had to worry about emptying the bag or freeing the rollers from any hair. In short, iRobot has really done a great job.
iRobot Roomba i7 + review: buy it or not?
I really loved the iRobot Roomba i7 +. Going back could become really difficult because once you get used to this level of autonomy it will be difficult to start emptying the tank again manually.
The problem is the price: 999 euros. An important investment to which you will have to add the costs - however small - of the bags. But know that the initial commitment will be amply repaid the additional free time you will have and the high level of cleanliness.
