Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot - 10 Tips for the First 10 Hours | Beginner's Guide

To help you unravel this game, we're here to train you how to. Like Master Roshi, we'll teach you the ways of the warrior - or at least share some tips that might make your life easier. There are so many tutorials and menus, it's easy to get lost when not hitting the invading Saiyans. So here are all the tips and tricks we discovered at the start of our gameplay.

    # 1: grinding is optional

You don't need to work for XP and level up. The game gives you enough XP to stay strong enough for almost any challenge - you don't have to fight enemies unless you really want to. The only reason to grind is to unlock super abilities. Some of them are very, very useful! But for the most part, you don't need to grind just to complete the story.

Considering that this is an RPG, it is quite important to know this. For the first few acts, don't worry about grinding unless you really want to unlock skills sooner.

    # 2: Dodge is better than block - Perfectly timed dodge is even better

It's best to time your dodges accurately - press (A / Cross) right before a melee attack, and time will slow down. This gives you an opening to counterattack. Save your Ki and only use Burst or Vanish on special occasions when you can't just dodge.

While there is a tutorial on burst attacks and fainting, I don't blame you for not fully understanding them. Use Burst Attacks at close range to cancel an opponent's move, and use Vanish Attacks from a distance to instantly teleport behind your enemy and attack! Shard attacks only use a small amount of Ki, while Vanish attacks use a lot of Ki. Naturally, perfectly timed dodges use the least amount of Ki.

    # 3: Complete side stories ASAP or you might miss Soul Emblems

Complete all the side stories you can! Earning Zeni and XP is great, but Soul Emblems are what you're really looking for. Soul Emblems are rare character cards - this is basically how you can improve your passive support. The better Soul Emblems you have, the more bonuses you will earn from the Community Board. And some Soul Emblems are only available for a limited time in the story - usually at the start of an arc, then they will stay in place until major milestones are reached.

Assigning characters to the community board and leveling them up is a great way to improve your experience. You can earn extra cash, improve your cooking success, and unlock better combat bonuses. Community boards only make small percentage improvements, but they're worth watching!

    # 4: Use gifts to improve your friendships and become a better fighter

So what exactly are freebies used for? You will find them everywhere! Gifts are for giving (duh) - give them to your support characters in the Community menu, on the Soul Emblem screen, to increase their friendship level, which increases their total support gauge. A lot of times you team up with playable characters - when they're on your team, but you don't play like them, they give you unique bonuses.

This means you'll be billing for their automatic assists and other capabilities faster. There are three different types of characters: offensive, defensive, and special. Offensive characters enhance your super attacks, defensive characters protect you, while special characters replenish your HP and Ki.

Other Soul Emblems can also be upgraded with gifts. Instead of helping in battles, they will level up in one of the seven types of community councils. The higher your community board levels, the more passive upgrades you will unlock. Completing Friendship Milestones will also unlock special rare prizes, but you'll have to figure them out for yourself.

    # 5: How do you give gifts? How to access the skill tree?

To give gifts and improve your Soul Emblem community level, go to the Soul Emblem menu - press (Y / Triangle) to access Soul Emblem details, then press (Through) to give a gift and increase friendship. Each Soul Emblem has different material rewards or bonus skills - so don't forget to upgrade your friends with the best gifts!

It is strangely confusing. Once you get the hang of it, it really makes sense. But until then, we were pretty lost with gifts. Navigating the menus in general is actually a bit tricky. When you select a character from the character menu, you must press (Y / Triangle) to access their skill tree. This is where you can spend Z Orbs to unlock new skills and upgrades.
