To build a strong secondary that will end the opposing team's attack, it's not enough to have good turns. Safeties set the tone for the rest of high school, which means you'll want to be deep in those positions in order to be successful in Madden Ultimate Team. So which are the best basics in MUT? Here is our list of the best basic MUT safeties in Madden 21, starting with the free safeties.
Free collateral
Devin McCourty
Madden Ultimate Team's top rated (85) baseless security Patriots S Devin McCourty has a number of tools in his skills that make him a valuable defensive back. Not only does the former Super Bowl champion have strong attributes of speed (84 and acceleration (85), both of which are very good for base cards. Plus, McCourty also has some outstanding game recognition attributes. (88) and Zone Coverage (88), making it reliable security in Cover 3 and Cover 4 parts. Devin McCourty may be the most expensive baseless security out there, but there's a reason why : Patriots' free security is a very valuable player to have.
Minkah Fitzpatrick
Prioritizing value when building your MUT team is important, because sometimes the most expensive card isn't the best to buy. Steelers S Minkah Fitzpatrick might not cost as much as other free safeties like Kevin Byard or Justin Simmons, but you'll likely get more value from the former Alabama defensive back. Fitzpatrick has strong running attributes (84 speeds and 87 accelerations), as does Devin McCourty, and his game recognition (81) and area coverage (83) ratings are on par with MUT's best safeties.
Justin Reid
Texas FS Justin Reid has some similarities to Minkah Fitzpatrick, as he has pretty good speed (86) and acceleration (85) ratings. In fact, Reid's racing attributes put him ahead of other securities that have higher overall ratings than him, making him not only a good value acquisition but a solid user option as well. Reid's weakness, however, comes with his attributes of game recognition (77) and area coverage (77). Still, if you're looking for free security for high school users, Justin Reid might be worth a look.
Strong security
Harrison Smith
The Vikings have built a dominant defense in recent years, and arguably the best player on that front is S Harrison Smith. The top rated basic safety (86) in Madden 21, Smith has outstanding game recognition (88) and punching power (85). The Notre Dame elder also has a high area coverage attribute (87), which makes him a great option if you need a reliable area defender.
Tyrant Mathieu
FS Chiefs Tyrann Mathieu may not have the same punching power (76) and area coverage (84) attributes as Smith, but there's a lot to like about the 'Honey Badger'. Mathieu has solid speed (84) for safety, meaning he should have no problem moving through the secondary. Mathieu's value, however, comes from his Man Coverage attribute (84), the highest among solid Core Elite safeties. Given his balanced ratings, it's no wonder why Tyrann Mathieu is so valuable.
