American Gladiators it's a video game distributed by GameTek in 1991 for Nintendo Entertainment System, Amiga, SNES and Sega Mega Drive / Genesis.
The videogame is inspired to the homonymous television show, so popular between the late 80s and early 90s both in the United States and, albeit for a shorter period of time, in Italy. The only version that differs from the others is precisely the one for NES: the challenges are different from the real ones and in fact become side-scrolling mini games. Every fight sees four gladiators arranged on a self-propelled platform: the winner is the one who remains standing last.
The Human Cannonbal requires the four gladiators to be defeated with perfect timing during the abseil, making the challenge very challenging and sometimes frustrating. During this event and in normal gladiator combat, when they fall off the platform they scream rather comically.
The event best presented in the virtual edition of the television series is the Powerball, an event in which the player must obtain five balls to insert in five related baskets, avoiding three gladiators. American Gladiators is certainly not a masterpiece, but those who watched this program as a child may still find it fun.
