Gain proficiency by completing the star diagram and upgrading equipment.
Mastery rank is an overall indication of your account's progress in Warframe. The more you have seen and the more you have played with objects, the higher it will be. It doesn't correlate with potency, but it can make better items available, earn you extra charges, and increase your daily trade limit. With that said, the easiest way to gain mastery is to progress through the star diagram. Any blinking blue node indicates a mission you haven't tackled, and completing it will reward you with a set amount of mastery.
As you walk through the star diagram, you'll come up against a junction, a doorway between the planet you're on and the one you want to head to. Highlighting the junction will display the tasks you need to complete to unlock it, so make sure you eliminate them. Completing a Junction not only allows you to push further down the star diagram, but rewards you with 1000 mastery points when you kill the opposing cadre inside.
The best way to level up your Mastery Rank, however, is to level up equipment. Warframes, Sentinels, Weapons: If it can be upgraded, it will reward mastery. The total amount of Mastery rewarded differs depending on the item types, broken down below:
- Weapons, Sentinel Weapons and Archwing Weapons
- 100 Mastery for each rank, for a total of 3000 at rank 30
- Zaws and Kitguns need to be upgraded to 30, gold, and then back to 30 again to gain the 3000 Masteries (it's only gained after gilding, basically)
- 100 Mastery for each rank, for a total of 3000 at rank 30
- Warframes, Companions, Archwings et K-Drives
- 200 Mastery for each rank, for a total of 6000 at rank 30
- K-Drives do not require gilding for mastery
- 200 Mastery for each rank, for a total of 6000 at rank 30
It is up to you to create new Warframes and acquire new weapon models from the market as they become available. Leveling items will catapult your mastery rank into the stratosphere of previous ranks and essentially become a progression once you clear the star diagram. Remember that bit: re-leveling something doesn't reward mastery, only the first time it hits rank 30 (there's an exception to this rule, but that's towards the later parts of the game, and very cranky). The UI will tell you if you've mastered something, and that item will no longer reward mastery. THAT IS TO SAY. don't think you can Forma your favorite weapon and level it up for easy mastery. Warframe wants you to play with all of its toys, and you'll have to do that if you want to increase your mastery rank.
That said, you don't need to hold onto these items once you've mastered them, especially if you're running out of locations. Get a handle on the item, then resell it from your inventory if you don't want to keep it later. This will not only free up space for the items you are interested in, but allow you to pick up new items for even more mastery.
One last piece: you will have to pass a mastery test when you maximize one rank in order to reach the next. However, the mastery gained continues to contribute to your overall ranking, so don't worry about leveling up while you're capped - it'll all be there once you've passed the test. You can only attempt the test once per day until you pass, but you can visit any normal staging post and practice as much as you want at the Cephalon Simaris center.
It's a mastery rank for you: looks complex, but it's pretty darn easy to perform. For more guides, like how to trade or earn Platinum, stay tuned here at Attack of the Fanboy.
