It's hard to believe Travelers Tales have been producing Lego video games for almost 15 years. The company began its career with the Lego Star Wars: The Video Game franchise, which released in 2005. And now the circle is almost complete, with Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga slated for release on multiple platforms next year.
So which of the company's games fits the best in the Lego lexicon? There are a lot of good things to consider. But here's our top five, which comes highly recommended for building anything. Plus, they're great for players of all ages.
Lego Jurassic World
While it really doesn't do anything with the previous Kingdom Order movie, Lego Jurassic World still has hours of dino-riffic fun for fans of the movies. The first three Jurassic Films are revisited, with the first World all featuring the original characters and dialogue. Travelers Tales lovingly recreates the movies in family form, with entertaining gameplay and lots to unlock. And now the game is available on Nintendo Switch at a very low price. Like Jurassic Park itself, Lego Jurassic World provides a sense of wonder that you shouldn't miss.
Lego City Undercover
Originally released for the Wii U in 2013, Lego City Undercover is one of the few original Lego titles in WB's library. And it's one of the most notable too, following a cop named Chase McCain as he tries to shut down criminals in Lego City. Filled with epic moments (the last leg is jaw-dropping), hilarious at-a-glance references, and thrilling open-world gameplay, this Vaulted Adventure is a treat. And it is also available on many platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.
Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens
While Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga is an exceptional game in its own right, Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens revolutionizes the formula with a neat new element. Along with the following events in the film, it also launches a new "multi-build" system. With this, players can create different items in one stage, depending on what is needed. This, combined with the superb combat and rich presentation, make this adventure a force for all Star Wars fans. And you can get it on the cheap these days because it sells for under $ 20.
Lego DC Super-Villains
The Lego Batman the Trilogy is recommended for those looking for comic book antics. But there is something Lego DC Super-Villains that takes the formula to the next level. Maybe that's how you take control of some of the comic book brand's biggest villains, including the Joker (voiced by Mark Hamill, no less). Or maybe it's the hilarious storyline and inventive gameplay segments that keep you engaged. Either way, you need this game because it feels good to be bad.
Lego dimensions
He may be dead in the water now, as the market for “toys to life” has all but disappeared. But Dimensions Lego is one of those examples of the genre that really made a difference. It told a creative and exciting story involving all kinds of crossovers, and it also challenged players to work with their versions to get the most out of their game. Add a variety of additional adventures, ranging from Back to the future to The Goonies at Scooby Doo !, as well as a very detailed overview, and you've got a franchise worth looking for. Perhaps now is a good time for WB to consider an all-in-one Switch release, to give gamers a sense of what they've been missing out on. Hmmmm.
