How character progression works for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

Goku, also known as Kakarot, does not have an easy life in the Dragon Ball Z animated series as he takes on world-threatening individuals and saves Earth on multiple occasions. You can experience these incredible adventures in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot where you play as the mighty hero and many others. Characters in the game earn experience points for fighting enemies and completing quests, among other activities. There is more to do than participate in combat.

Level up through combat and quests

In Kakarot, the best way to level up in the game is to fight and complete quests. You gain experience points and use those points to make your characters stronger. Raising the level increases your character's base stats and makes them stronger.

However, there are plenty of ways to increase your character's talents beyond just fighting.

Food provides buffs and increases stats

Fans of the show know how much Goku loves to eat food. He drops any meal he can place in front of him. Kakarot has an important Food Mechanic where particular meals provide useful bonuses to your character's stats and give them buffs. Particular meal options also provide a permanent boost to your character's stats, making them stronger and prepared for more difficult fights in the future.

You can find chefs in a town or go back to Goku's house to ask his wife, Chichi, to cook him a meal. There are several options available and they offer different bonuses depending on what you have available.

Unfortunately, you cannot ask for something to be done for him. You need ingredients to make these dishes. The more rare and potent ingredients you collect during your travels, the more bonuses and stats increase your character's meal provides. You can also discover new recipes thanks to the side quests that you will find in the world.

Learn new super attacks

Your character can learn new awesome moves by going through a handful of steps. The first step is to locate the special colored "Z" orbs hidden around the world. There are red, blue, and green orbs, and supers require orbs in different colors to level up and unlock. When you have enough Orbs for the ability, you can choose to upgrade it in your skill tree or you can choose to learn another one from your roster.

However, you need a training partner if you want to learn a new super attack or if you want to unlock skills with a green icon on the top right. You have to go to a scattered training ground throughout the game. But you have to find D medals, which are hidden items all over Kakarot. If you know you're near a D medal, you can use Ki's search ability to figure out its exact location.

You can start special training when you have the appropriate amount of Z Orbs, a D Medal, and have arrived at a training ground. To complete the training, you have to face a specific enemy, and it can be other allies, old enemies that you have already taken down, or a shadow of yourself. You will receive the ability after successfully completing the training.

Community council

The last piece of progression in Kakarot is called the community council. It's full of different communities that grant you passive buffs based on how many Soul Emblems you put in it. You receive Soul Emblems by completing side quests and character tasks throughout the game during your journey. These Soul Emblems go to specific boards and you connect them together on the board to increase fellowship rank. The more emblems you connect, the more passive skills you unlock for your character during the game.

You can place specific ones next to each other to give them a link bonus. For example, placing Adult Gohan and Goku together on the board increases the rank of the fellowship even more than it normally would. You also unlock an exclusive dialogue between characters when you do that, too.

There are seven different boards, each with a unique set of passive skills available to your characters. You'll want to find the board that best matches your playstyle to receive the most benefit in the way you play.
