BumbleBear Games' multiplayer sensation Killer Queen Black is out now for Nintendo Switch and PC, with an upcoming release on Xbox One. It's a multiplayer favorite that has swept the country with arcade versions, and players now have the chance to see what it's all about at home.
There are three ways to win this fun little game - Military, Economy, and Snail. For this guide, we're going to take a look at Military Victory. Many action gamers are sure to take advantage of this option more than others. This victory condition means eliminating the queen from the enemy during a match. When it dies three times, the other team automatically scores a victory.
So what's the best way for someone to eliminate a queen? Well, there's a particular strategy to this, so let's break it down.
Take out the queen
First of all, you need to realize that killing a queen can be a tricky business unless the opposing player doesn't “understand” how it's supposed to work. The Queen can move quickly in a stage and attack even faster with dashing strikes. She can take out pretty much anyone on the opposing team, able to finish off the Drones (the Queen's assistants) without batting an eyelid. And she can also defeat the rival queen with a sword attack, which is why it helps to stay on the offensive.
But here's the thing - the Queen isn't the only one who can take down another Queen. There is another strategy in which drones can transform into warriors. They can do this using unique pods, which the queen can claim. When the queen activates these doors, drones can transform into a warrior or speed drone when carrying a bay. By taking the road of the warriors, they become armed. At this point, they can now defeat the Queen using melee or pistol attacks, flying with the same maneuverability as hers.
It is, however, a risky business. As noted above, the Queen remains armed at all times and can quickly take out enemies with a knife attack. If you want to try attacking the queen, it's best to try and do it from a distance while she's distracted.
How to win with the queen
When it comes to winning with your queen, it relies on two things: movement and aggression. By continuing to move quickly on a stage, you can easily choose potential targets, like drones trying to win (another way to win) or searching for berries. Killing drones will not earn you points, but will prevent your opponent from winning matches in another way. Plus, they're easy to remove when they're not warriors.
However, the primary target is the opposing player's queen. And they're going to fight, especially if the player handling them knows how to go about it. The Killer Queen. Your best bet is to watch their move and wait for the knocking time to beat that character. But you'll want to make sure you don't sit still while you play queen. It makes it easier for you to kill. As you keep moving, you're less likely to see them - and you may find your moment to land the killing blow.
When someone lands a killing blow and the Queen is defeated, you win the round. Do it twice more, and the game is yours.
This victory condition takes time to master. The Queen is an action-oriented class and may not be suitable for those who want to take the risk of being out in the open and being the deciding factor in the game. But those who are willing to step into its role and accept her power may find him very satisfying - and possibly even addictive, based on The Killer Queen Fans.
