Improving the abilities of your Disintegration crews is essential as you progress through the campaign. Enemies get tougher and attack in larger groups, so you'll need to increase your firepower, health, and other stats in order to stay alive and defeat them.

How do I upgrade my crew in Disintegration?
To level up, you will need to collect Salvage Items. Our Disintegration recovery guide is your best friend, so go read it first if you are not sure what recovery is.
Are you back Okay, let's continue. When you locate recovery items during missions, you will also find Upgrade Tokens. Upgrade Tokens - which are also given to you as a reward for completing optional story challenges during missions - are what you use to improve your stats and those of your teammates.
Once you upgrade from one rank to the next, new upgrade chip slots will be available to unlock in each team member's ability section. Let's see how you use Upgrade Tokens to improve these stats.
What should I do to improve my disintegration abilities?
Once you have an upgrade chip, you'll want to head over to the Crew section of the game. You can do that by heading to the computer that's on your main ship. Interact with it by pressing the cross button on PlayStation 4, the A button on Xbox One, or the V button on PC.
This brings up the missions menu. In the upper right corner, you will see an additional menu called Crew. Access this. You'll see Romer - the character you play - and a number of other team members. The exposed teammates are the ones you will take with you on the next mission. They rotate inward and outward, so don't worry if you can't access some to upgrade right away.
Your upgrade chip number is also on the right of the screen. This tells you how much you have left to use and obviously once it hits zero you won't be able to upgrade anything.
You can scroll to each unit using the D-pad or the left controller on Xbox One and PS4, or the A and D keys on PC. Alternatively, you can scroll down to confirm which squadron you want to upgrade.
Once you've chosen a certain team member to upgrade, you can scroll through their abilities and choose which one to upgrade. Once you're happy with your choice, long press A on Xbox One, cross over on PS4 or V on PC. Once the meter has filled up and your teammate performs an animation, this stat has been improved.
The last thing to keep in mind is that some abilities are locked until you reach a certain rank. You'll have to rank up to level 10 to unlock the fifth and final slot on Romer's durability, for example, until you hit that rank.
If you run out of Upgrade Tokens in the early parts of the mission - or if you don't complete some challenges - you can replay the missions to try and get them. It will help you upgrade your troops faster and improve them in combat scenarios.
